Myth of rookie cards

The only reason rookie cards got their high price reputation was because kids threw them away and only cared about the players they'd heard of.
Kids were the ones buying the cards, so no rookie cards survived in good shape.
Nowadays there's no reason at all for a rookie card to command a higher value.

I'll buy all of your vintage football rookie cards ... for common card prices.

I somewhat disagree (and I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not). I think your theory would apply to vintage rookies, but with modern rookies, it doesn't fit. High grade vintage is tough to find regardless. Rookies are that much more in demand because, I believe, people think its cool to have the "first card" of a player. Maybe it doesn't make sense to you, but there's that allure of having the first card of a player in their pro team's uniform. I would liken it to collecting autographs -- what's the big deal about those? They're just signatures, but its still of that athlete/figure that we're drawn to. Modern rookies, on the other hand, are a little more difficult to understand since the majority of them are found easily in higher grades. The player is not proven and its all based on "upside potential" so I don't see how they could be more valuable than a vintage rookie of a comparable player.
Just my $0.02.

Unfortunately, over the past several years we have seen rookies in anything, but their pro uniforms. I still don't want a Bowman Manny Ramirez or Mariano Rivera in their dockers and polo.
I agree with you regarding vintage rookies.
Just a thought.

I agree in that respect, too. What I was trying to get to (unsuccessfully) was that people will always want the "first" of a player.
