Less then 1 month to the PSA Awards. I am too far out to complete in 99.9% of my sets, but I should get 1 award. Good luck to everyone.

Football HOF Player/etc. Auto Set
Football HOF Rc's
As you know I had the number one 1971 Topps Greatest Moments set for 4 years. I broke the set up after I thought that I had exhausted all avenues to make it better. I ended up selling 6 cards to the guy that was number 2. Three months later he earns the award for "the best speciality set for 2006." I wanted to kick my cat when I saw it.
I am happy for him though, he really does have the number one specialty set IMO.

Problem is, there are no competing sets. Isn't anyone stupid enough to go after these things?
1971 Complete Box Set
Best of luck to everyone who's driving toward the #1 spot.
I think that is how must of us feel. Otherwise everyone would just be submitting/purchasing small modern insert set cards.
My interest is all over the board; football, then baseball....and a little basketball and hockey. Any HOF'er, or Topps base card is cool (in PSA 10 or 9, as I am a modern collector), then add those players I like for various reason, like former regional stars, such as Bret Sabrehagen and Derrick Thomas. I collect modern because these are the cards I collected as a kid, as such I don't buy much past about 1996. One of the only two sets I have complete, and the only PSA 10 set, is the six card 1991-92 Fleer Basketball Pro-Visions set. I always thought those Pro-Visons sets were cool (all sports) and they are all loaded with HOF'ers or future HOF'ers.
I guess I should add some scans of that Pro-Visons set, which I purchased complete for $25, meaning I am not too proud of it, but they are neat. Those cards, like the Rookie Sensations, usually have bright colored borders and from my experience are often off-centered.
Clear Skies,
Mark

A quick look says that you qualify for the set award. That will be a paper certificate for the set. Nice for a cheap frame and up on the wall. You will go into the bigger pool for a set of the year award. Those I believe are plaques. Then comes the infamous collection of the year and hall of fame stuff. May take more than the top Milk Dud set for those. Good luck on your sets.

Fuzz,
Thanks for the info. I collect for fun and use the registry as a place to compete and show off a bit. I would be more excited if it was a cash prize or some Mantles!
Thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to setup my Registry Update Snipe program so that the competition will only a few seconds prior to the deadline to counter the sudden jump in my GPA with all of the high grade cards I've been stockpiling the past 11-1/2 months.
<< <i>I enjoy the awards and I have mine displayed from last year. I guess it's my competitive side coming through. Who doesn't like to be #1?? >>
IF YOU AIN'T FIRST, YOU'RE LAST!
Actually it is pretty enjoyable to blast in a boatload of upgrades just before the Registry Award deadline. I did it in 05 with my 72 Topps set and added 80 PSA 10's with 48 hours to go and watched my GPA go from 9.04 to 9.20 in a matter of 10 minutes. It sure takes the wind out of the sails of the #2 guy!!!
This year - no such luxury. I'm lucky if I come across 2 or 3 72 OPC Baseball each month to fill in holes or upgrade. But, I've had my day...

Always looking for 1972 O-PEE-CHEE Baseball in PSA 9 or 10!

I recall someone posted a message several years back agonizing over the fact someone unseated their #1 ranking the final evening of the deadline. I don't have nerve to do that to someone because the last thing you want is to be in a feud in registry competition.

The certificates are a nice gesture,
but what I'm really after are these little things next to my sets :
Like the tattoo Mike Tyson got on his face,
they're there forever and are in plain sight for everyone to see and admire.
But in a good way ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
I think that that 62 Fleer set may be in line for a Gold one this year. MOSH has two other really nice sets that have seperated themselves as well, but your has to be a finalist.

That set is long overdue for an award.

Thanks guys,
but if that ever happens then all of my dreams will have been fullfilled
... and I'll have nothing left to live for ...
