Taking a set you are working on to a show

Hi,
What do you guys think, if a guy were to take a set he was working on to a show to look for upgrades. Say he has the set in a binder for quick reference between the cards he is interested in purchasing and the cards he already has. Do you think this is inappropriate to do at a dealers table. Does it open up too many concerns for the dealers that their cards would be easy to steal.
Just curious as I was thinking of doing this at the National this year.
Thanks for your input,,

Its probably best to make a checklist. Divide the cards you have into piles based on condition and maybe take one or two from each pile as an example of each condition. That way you have something to "compare" your upgrade with. Do you have a laptop? Maybe you could scan the cards that you need upgrades on and take the laptop with you. You could also build checklists in excel and dont have to worry about papers (to shuffle through).

<< <i>Why not just have a want list? Easier to carry around. >>
I use an excel spreadsheet which is color coded for wants/needs/upgrades.
Not only would carrying around a set (or sets) be cumbersome but it's not worth taking the chance IMO.
Before computers and excel spreads - we used to make up checklists and reduce them on xerox machines and keep them in our wallets. It was convenient and easy to have -especially when ya least expect ya might find something.
I believe, IMO, ya would be doing a dealer a favor by not plunking 'your' binder down on his table - less stress for everyone.

I do carry checklists with me to shows as I am collecting more than one set.
I was just curious as the set has only has 132 cards (1960 Fleer football) and am looking for the best cards I can afford as it is my first vintage set.
I kind of figured it would be looked down upon but I wanted a second opinion.
Thanks,
