Tribute to early 70's music - Set Scans Added

I love music. I try to pick up any sets that focus on music. When I came across these unopened packs from a 1972 set called the Hitmakers, I had to have them. I ended up buying around 15 packs (each pack has 18 cards). The cards are around 3x5. The back has a bio of the band, list of band members, birthdates and astrological sign. The first series has 36 cards. I do not know if there was a 2nd series. They have some of the top rock, country and R&B groups from 1972. Here are a few of the packs.

Out of curiosity, what do these go for?
Absolutely incredible.
And, I would like know - who they list as the hitmaker who started as a boxer?
Dean Martin was born and raised in Steubenville. He was a boxer as a kid.
But these are tributes to 70s music - don't know if he's in these kind of series?
I would like to know who the drummer is with 65 gold records!
Billy Preston's mom played on Amos n Andy Show.
What about the festival? That's interesting?
If they're talking about Woodstock - it was Richie Havens - now you guys are in my era!!
And last - where's the Partridge Family - I heard on TV that David Cassidy had the biggest fanclub in all of history!
Thanx for sharing and congratulations on a great pickup - just color me chartreuse of envy!

You're IN this set, aren't you?!!
Mark
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

That made me laugh just thinking about it. "Hey, I will trade you my gay cowboy for your gay indian card."

Here's an example of some of my pac man set
Just kidding around
Great thread.

Awesome find, and thanks for sharing the pics!!!!
I'm drooling over those packs.
Even though they are 3x5 cards, you've gotta remember that 79cents was a hunk of change in 1972, with pack of Topps going for a dime.
(Then again, the centering/cut on these is MUCH better than the average Topps card from that era....)
<< <i>The drummer with 65 gold records is a true legend, Marion Evans.
Mark >>
LOL, those are the drum heads I use .
But I thought the drummer might have been David Frangioni .
I'm gonna take a stab at it and say Evans is /was a studio drummer ?
My favorite drummer of all time is Neil Peart .
By far the hardest drummer to try to duplicate , the guy plays like 2 different people playing at the same time .
Just a joke!
David
I guess that answers my question of what I'm going to do next. If you open the packs make singles available that are sharp and centered, please keep me in mind. I'm in love with the whole mood of the thing! THANK YOU VERY MUCH for sharing something unusual.

My first instrument was drums - I took lessons for 2 yrs. - wanted to be a studio musician.
I played a gig on a boat that went around Manhattan Island - I had a plastic head on snare (Remo I believe) but rawhide toms - I couldn't find my key in my trap case and the humidity made them go flat!!!
Those were the days! Wish I had some pics of my early days.

I'm looking forward to the rip!
Those cards are sweet!

They look cool. Thanks for sharing them!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !
I have tried to research this set but cannot find any specifics about it. I believe it was a regional issue because my friends and I do not recall seeing them sold. They are a mystery to me. All I know is that I really enjoy the set.

I get a a similar effect when I try moving the drums from the basement to the shed .
I decided to open the pack with the Carpenters showing. I will post the cards as I pull them out.
They look super!

If you or anyone else are interested in the backs, I will post scans. They are an interesting.

Those are some unique outfits. I never saw a picture of them just heard their music but I guess it was the 70s. My favorite is the guy without his shirt on with the suspenders

I know what ya mean Mike!
Unfortunately I don't have any pics from my early days - I had a few boxes get lost in transit.
Here's a more senior Stone around 1990 - on the right with the white Strat - we were covering alot of the songs from the 70s back then.
I've still not come across any pics from the early 80s. I have a slide from the 60s where I was playing the drums in Vietnam. I have a great story about the Kingsmen and Louie-Louie for another Oprah show.
My first band was in 1962 - the Rondells - we covered the Beach Boys back then. And was actually lucky enough to open for a couple of chart bands like the Duprees. Also, Bobby Lewis - who had a big hit with a song called Tossin and Turnin.
BTW, we were a good band and just in the right place at the right time - it was a very large beach club on Long Island.

Exciting career, Mike! Losing the pictures/memories of that time in your life was a real loss. Do you have any other service buddies/musician friends that may have some pics??
Back on topic, see what a great set of picture cards can do!
