2006-w SAE What's up??

I have been watching the pieces rise for the NGC MS70's and yesterday the only one for sale (other than sets) went for $611. Today with 9 hours to go the only one for sale is at $686.00!!! Supply must be getting thin. These were selling in the $400 range 3 weeks ago.

  • another modern that I missed out on image
  • So how much of a price difference is there between these and the PCGS 69's? Seems like not being able to get a 70 could cost a few dollars

I don't have time to do it now but just look in their census report.

If you pre-screen your coins, people have reported very high probabilities of getting 70s though not everyone is good at pre-screening for TPG 70s.
  • I submitted several boxes of these coins. I got plenty of PF 70's, I did well on the Reverse Proofs, and I got few MS 70's. In my case, it was easier to get the reverse proof in 70. I believe that in the future, the MS 70 will cost more than the other two coins in the set. The reason for this is that anyone holding a reverse proof can submit it with the possibility of getting a 70 in the 20th Anniversary Label. As for the uncirculated, in order to get the "20th Anniversary Label", it must be submitted in the US Mint Sealed package. In the future, there will be less MS 70's than Reverse Proof 70's.

Don't forget the demand part of the equation.
  • I predict that the 2006 W Uncirculated will go over $1000 dollars easily in MS 70. No matter what label you get, there were less than 500,000 minted. For a Silver Eagle, that is a very low mintage. Once the flippers are done selling their coins on ebay and supply gets thin, I see the 20th Anniversary Set in 70 selling for $3000 dollars with no problem.

Someone ATS has reported getting like 90% with pre-screening but you'd have to open your boxes for that.

of the the 2006-W ASE's I have looked at have only been raw and one PCGS MS69 I bought a month or two ago to use as a comparison.

I can't see anything wrong with either the graded or raw coin through a 8x loop and angled light, etc..

I would have a very hard time trying to pick out a "perfect" coin to send to NGC. I can find pits and other irregulaties in the other ASE minted silvers, but theses burnished die ones are tough...they are minted very well.

Anyone with an NGC care to enlighten....if they can tell a difference?

Too bad PCGS can't grade their ASE eagles with a 70....or at least a "qualified" 70

Any "burnished" eagles show signs of milk spotting, yet? IN or OUT of slabs?
  • Here's my personal stats. I submitted 59 sets unopened to NGC (can't pre-screen if you want the 20th Anniv. slab). 10 from the Mint- 4 10 set boxes purchased from $1900-3000
    RP69....39
    RP70....19 (one 68)

    PF69....32
    PF70....27

    MS69...42
    MS70...17

    Saved one unopened set.

I think I may do well with this group

Sounds like a good time to sell to me, always sell into strength.image
  • Heard the same 3 weeks ago....I try not to sell anything (coins, stocks) until the market declares itself and finds a defined bottom/top. I think this one has at least 6 mos- 1 year to declare itself.

They have jumped in the last couple of days.
    I have 5 RP and 5 MS in NGC 69 with 1 PR70UC
The MS69 has steadied at around $100-$110 with a couple of exceptions.
The Reverse Proof in 69 was around $220-240 just a week ago and the last 8 or so have gone for a minimum of $270.

I think they still have a way to go.
Should show steady climb the rest of the year.
