    One question (on top of all of the other good ones that were asked): If they were altered holders, then why on earth did the dealer have them out for sale on his table? Shouldn't they have been held as evidence by the police?

    << <i>I just got back from a show today at hofstra in long island & heard a story today which turns my stomach.

    i met guy today who was scammed for more then $30k. yes $30,000 dollars!!

    let me tell you the story:

    i was going to pay for 2 cards i wanted from this dealer at the end of the show today & was walking by another dealers table who is a friend of mine. he was talking to another dealer accross from him & i noticed a whole lot of bgs 9.5's raw card reviews. i said wow great cards. the dealer said not really. i said yea ok.

    the bgs 9.5 raw card reviews were:
    1984 usfl young
    1986 topps rice
    1981 topps montana
    2001 bow gold refrac reyes
    (2) 1994 sp arods
    1994 sp die cut arod
    1994 score call up arod
    (2) 1994 gold leaf phenoms arod
    1993 sp jeter

    plus another 15-20 great cards.

    so the scam is: last month at the white plains show these 2 guys (that if you do shows on the east coast u def know) approached a dealer with a raw card review & offered it to him at 65% book. the dealer agreed to buy it. since beckett was at the show grading the dealer saw nothing wrong. he was told they just got the card reviewed & wanted to sell it. so the dealer bought it. the dealer & the scammers exchanged #'s becuase the dealer was told by the 2 scammers that they had a lot of cards in being reviewed. the 2 scammers told dealer to have a lot of cash ready beacue they would sell to him 1st.
    the 2 scammers called the dealer on sunday the last day of the show & asked dealer to come outside to meet them since they picked up there cards from beckett & were leaving. the dealer went outside & saw all these amazing cards listed up top & purchased them all. over $30k!

    this how the scam works. they submitted on friday 30 2006 topps cards which are so easy to gem. they had someone else submit them to bgs since they were banned by them for trimmming & altering cards. yes banned from beckett! so after they got these bgs review cards back they went home & this where 2 losers screw a good person.

    they slice open the side of the raw card review with a razor & slip the 2006 topps card out & slip in one of the cards listed above. then crazy glue the holder back together.

    the dealer then sells some of the raw card reviews off to another dealer. the new buyer then brings them home & while handling one of them he realizes that one opened on the side. he feels it & it has something on the side of it, in his words "it felt like glue". then looks at the other ones & he realizes there all the same.

    he calls the dealer who he bought them from & he tells him whats going on. the original buyer is at a lost more ways then one. they contact beckett & now the law law is involved.

    needless to say i know the scammers. one of them went to my high school here in nj. i dont want to post there names but one of them had a bgs 10 topps mattingly up a couple weeks ago.

    its a disgrace to this industry where people invest there
    hard earned money. i hope there prosecuted to fullest extent of the law. >>

    I have purchased one Beckett Raw Review card in the past. they rated it an 8.5. I was able to remove the card without damaging the holder and it got a PSA 9. These clowns were sloppy and found a perfect mark if this story is true.

    So then should I run and not walk from these auctions?

    1. 1984 Topps USFL Steve Young BGS 9.5 Raw Card Review;
    2. 1994 Score Call Up Alex Rodriguez BGS 9.5 Raw Card Review;
    3. 1994 SP Alex Rodriguez BGS 9.5 Raw Card Review;
    4. 1994 SP Die-Cut Alex Rodriguez BGS 9.5 Raw Card Review; and
    5. 1994 SP Holoview Die-Cut Alex Rodriguez BGS 9.5 Raw Card Review.

    I guess the question we should ask is if ANYBODY has ever purchased a card with a Beckett Raw Card Review, submitted it to Beckett and actually received the same grade as that identified on the Raw Card Review. Anyone?

    I have pretty much decided that corporal punishment
    should be adopted to deal with thieves in America.

    First Offense: One hand goes away.
    Second Offense: One eye goes away.
    Third Offense: The other hand goes away.
    Fourth Offense: The other eye goes away.

    In no time at all, there would be almost no theft.

    And, maybe science could figue out how to transplant
    the body parts onto folks who needed them.
    Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.

    We are supposed to contact Beckett for additional information and confirmation.

    Edited to add:

    << <i>contact beckett if you doubt me. >>

    So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

    I can imagine the conversation:

    Me: So, what is up with the supposedly altered Raw Card Review holders that were sold for $30 K to an East Coast Dealer?
    Them: What are you talking about?
    Me: Some guy from the PSA boards said to contact Beckett for more information about a bunch of RCR holders that were compromised.
    Them And you are?
    Me: An interested party... (admitted Clerks reference here)
    Them: Click
    Me: Hello? Hello?
