tonight is going to be fun UPDATE: I finished

Tonight I'll be opening over 100 unopened proof sets from 1956-1964--I'll post anything nice

Update:

Ultimately--I'm pretty disappointed. Not much worth mentioning. I came across a few small date 1960 lincolns, some cameo and Dcam 1961 Quarters, a cameo 1957 half, and a 1957 Roosie with an absolutely MONSTER ultra cameo obverse, but a non cameo, shiny reverse image . The last batch I was opening was a group of about 25 1958 sets. I opened about 12 and didn't find anything. At this point I was so discouraged that I I just left the rest unopened (unopened 1958's sell for about $60, while opened ones are about $40--so each time I opened one it was like shredding a $20 bill).

I had gone through about 70 unopened 1961 sets. I was really hoping to find a DDR Franklin, but no such luck. I wasn't planning on finding one, but when you have a stack of unopened 1961 sets that is 8 inches high, it is pretty easy to let your hopes get high.

UPDATED AGAIN:

Whoa! My friend had given me 4 boxes of sets to sell to him. I had brought all 4 inside my house but accidentally had left one of them in kitchen and had forgotten about it. Just went in the kitchen and found it--another 100 sets to open--mostly 1962 and 1963!

I'm selling them for a friend of mine. I explained to his the pros and cons of opening them, and he decided to have me open them.

Damn I thought it was gonna be about hooters. But if your going to hooters to open them that would be perfect.
Do you have any 1960 mint sets?

    Good luck.
  • turns out there were more than I thought (probably close to 200). THey were all in one big box and we hadn't taken a definite count so I wasn' sure. I opened about 100 (mostly 1960 and 1961). All I found so far was some Cameo and DCam 1961 Quarters and 4 small date 1960 sets.

When are they up for sale? and where did you/your friend get 200 unopened sets? Did he have them since purchased from the mint?

Not for sale yet--still have a few things to work out.

My firend had inheritted them from his father who passed away several years ago.

I expected you to do a little better.

Perhaps the sellers of some of those pretty much knew what was in them.
