Grades or comments on these 2 commems (San Diego/Monroe)
Spent the afternoon at a local coin/stamp/collectible auction with forum member Ajaan. Sort of lucked into these I think. Anyone care to share their grade or other opinions?

OK, the colors are pretty close to reality, what looks like scratches on rev looks like when they swapped the 2x2 for the auction and appears to only be in the toning, not the coin. Thoughts?

I don't see any circulation evidence on either, but the luster doesn't boom off them (not that they do off of many Monroes). They have the appearance of lower grade MS Commems. If you got into them right . . . you are the proud owner of a couple of decent Commems!

<< <i>not sure on grades... but both have a nice look... especially the monroe... nice colors... but do i see a scratch on the bottom left obv? >>
A ha - yup, hard to see in hand, but those photos do magnify everything and it is there. I wish they would have just left the darn thing in whatever holder it was in to begin with.

Drunner, if I told you I got them both for under greysheet bid of just the San Diego would that count?

It's difficult to grade the Monroe from a photo because that type of toning can hide flaws as well as make it appear that it has flaws that aren't there.
The main issue, as always, is whether you enjoy them and are glad you bought them for the price you paid.

All the detail's there, but it looks like there's a break in the luster on Minerva's knees and breast.
For the Monroe, I'm having a hard time reading the surface. It looks like it's scarred from a nast print being dipped off.
