Cardinals pitcher dies in car wreck; game postponed
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancoc was killed in a car accident early on Sunday, the team said. The Cardinals' Sunday game against the Chicago Cubs was postponed because of the death. Hancoc, 29, was a relief pitcher with a record of 0-1 and 3.55 ERA in eight games this season. He had pitched three innings in St. Louis' 8-1 loss to the Cubs on Saturday, giving up two hits and one run while striking out two. Hancoc was a member of the Cardinals' World Series championship team last season, when he was 3-3 in 62 games. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch said Hancok died at the scene after his Ford Explorer ran into the rear end of a tow truck stopped on Highway 40 to help a disabled vehicle. The tow truck driver was in his vehicle at the time but was not injured, the newspaper said.

Very sad news, my thoughts are with his family, agree with soft, the game takes a back seat to events like these. Now let's see how long it takes the vultures to flood ebay with his rookie cards.

Of the 80 auctions I found with the key words Hancoc and Cardinals, 76 were listed today. Disgusting.

Being a Cardinal lifer just would add to the sadness. Its bad enough having that story pop up in front of you from across the nation. This kind of thing can happen to any one of us at any time and we all know that. It makes you go back and be DOUBLE and TRIPLE thankful for our families. Not to mention what Hancoks family is going through ....... and CU's filtration program BLOWS for not being able to spell out Josh's NAME for crying out loud. image

The vultures on Ebay move quick on these situations as there is only a limited amount of time to cash in before the story fades from the
    headlines. It is disgusting.

At least it wasn't his fault!

I can't put a link because his name isn't allowed, but his dad is suing the restaurant, manager, tow company, tow driver, disabled motorist.

Apparently they made him drive drunk and have pot and speed and talk to his girlfriend on the phone!!

Fer real. The post-death profiteers on eBay have nothing on Papa Hanc-ck.

I can imagine a grieving father wants to desperately believe it's someone else's fault and not his son's. Having said that...suing the stranded motorist? That's just litigation gone wild. You could make *some* case against the bar if they were still serving him after he was already bombed, but the rest? Come on.

Oh, and why can't some of you write "Hancock?"

He needs to drop this lawsuit before he does himself and his family a great deal of trouble. I can't imagine anyone in the general public supporting this.

I don't think they will. If I were one of the defendants, I'd take my chances in the courtroom, assuming it ever even makes it to that point. People here are almost universally appalled by the actions of Mr. Hanc-ck, who apparently graduated from the George W. Bush School of Goodwill Management.

I have zero respect for the father trying to shift the blame for his son's recklessness on others. Did the bartender light his joint for him at the bar? And why is the tow truck driver and the stranded motorist being named in the suit anyway? If anything, they ought to be suing Hancawk's estate for any damages his vehicle caused. Sad to say, but this lack or responsibility that the father is showing on behalf of his son is any indication, it's no wonder why Hancawk acted as irresponsibly as he did.

What's the point of dropping this political turd into the punch bowl? Are some people incapable of refraining from turning everything into politics?

As someone else already said, yeah, if this is Mr. Hancock's idea of absolving responsibility away from his son, it's no wonder his son grew up to be so reckless and irresponsible, at least where marijuana, drinking and driving (without a seat belt, no less) are concerned.

Not much of a point, other than to register my disgust for both Bush and Hanc-ck, both of whom have squandered broad support through rather misguided decisions.
