Large Private Collection Coin auction nearby...

this Monday at 16:30.

This is a county auction and I would guess that this is a local person selling their collection.

I looked at the first page of coins and found several rare, pricey coins:

- 1871 Seated Dollar
- 1928 Peace Dollar
- 1895-O Silver Dollar
- 1895-O Barber Dime
- (2) 1916-D Mercury Dimes
- 1890-CC Silver Dollar

Linkarooski...

If there is something on the list that you'd really like to get, I may be able to bid at the auction for you, so let me know.
I'm sure there will be some Big Dogs there, but this is an absolute auction and some folks just don't want to go for
some of the items. Might be able to get a really good deal.

Edited to fix spelling & grammar.

Are the 16-D dimes slabbed? If not, I'd be concerned with their authenticity.

many times there will be some great coins at small auctions.... either dealers dont get there...are they pass on some items.... make sure you see the lots first before bidding....if you are unsure pass...example the 16 d dime..... worth attending...make sure you are aware of the terms...some require cash payments.... make sure you sit to the side / back and watch out for shill type bidding if the auction house is not well known...good luck

I noticed 2 Jefferson nickels struck on dime planchets. Those might be a great deal and are likely authentic. However, I'd be very leary of many coins with added mint marks, old cleanings, etc.

Also, be careful of the 1928 Peace dollar. It's not unusual to see 1928-S Peace dollars with the mintmark removed.

If you really believe that this is an Absolute auction, try attending and just watch the bidding on the high value items. I can assure you that there will be at least one consistent active floor bidder on each of these lots. And this bidder won't be the last one out if the lots reach or exceed current FMV. I wish I could attend a real auction. I have only been to one estate auction where I live. The auction company advertised coins. I went and previewed the stuff. They had a lot of ASEs, proof sets, slabbed coins and raw. This auction was aweful, I waited from start time (9:00) till it shut down (4:00 pm ish) and they never even got to the coins. I have no idea why. I began to wonder after if the coins were just to attract people and were not really in the estate. Either that or they never got to them because there was small attendance. I would guesstimate the average amount of bidders was only 15. There were of course about 30 people when it started. Maybe they figured the coins could be sold at another auction another day for better money.

Anyway, I have not been to another one of "Tumbleweed Auctions" auctions since. I will try again someday I guess, problem was this one was 30-40 miles from where I live and to go that far and not even be able to bid ... ARGH
