The Registered number can be used to track the package. Your buyer can look it up on the USPS website. You or your buyer can ask the PO to do an internal trace on the number for much more detailed info. Many times I can figure out the name of the person behind the email by looking at eBay or PayPal records.
I get the odd customer that DEMANDS a tracking number a day or two after the auction ends. I just give them the USPS numbers I have for Delivery Confirmation and leave it at that. They often write back telling me that I have not sent the item because my Post Offices can't scan the packages in when I drop them off. (Maybe yours can, but mine cannot figure out how to do it.) I assure them that I have shipped the item and offer to scan the receipt showing a package paid for going to their zip code. It can go round and round like this, but since I use Priority Mail for all my shipping, even registered, the package gets to them before they can even figure out what happened. Ain't life grand?
