You probably wont have a chance if you tell too many people about it. If I was a Yankee fan or Munson collector it might be just what I was looking for and letting me know about something I might have missed could cost ya…

You never know... I mean I dont search daily for Indians cards and if a similar piece was offered there would be a good chance I missed it. If this was say a Sam McDowell instead of Munson then this post would only spark my interest.
I know I wouldnt try to outbid someone I knew (I even feel bad outbidding OhioBobcat on Hafner stuff even though I only know him from the Beckett article), I doubt that is the case with everyone though
PS ~ stupid OhioBobcat always outbidding me…

Not to worry!
I knew after I bid, I would not even come close. I'm not going to chase this card.
Expect this card to at least go for SMR (Topps) value.
As a 1/1 and a Munson rookie card, I'm quite sure it will. OPC or not!
<<Just curious, what do you mean that it's in a frosted holder? That's it's seriously scuffed? >>
jhpfunk, a "frosted holder" refers to a holder that has a white "frosting" like look around one or more of the edges, a sign that the holder may have been tampered with (i.e. someone opened it and replaced the card).
I think sagard's comments (judging by the smiley face) were meant to imply that if you're going to post about a current auction that you're interested in, you want to make the card seem bad so that no one else is interested, although I don't think rbdjr1 took the comments that way.
I do not intend to bid on the card. I will say that the right edge , all the way the down to what appears to be a bat ear at the bottom right corner would be more than enough to keep me away. In fact , cards like this one are what made me decide to never buy another card in a high grade holder.
I think Lee is close, I was hoping to get it for around $2500 but the more I think about it the more I don't think I have a chance. There's just not a lot of mint opc stuff out there. Look at what Wondo's 71 ryan psa9 brought, and it was 1/5.
It seems everytime a card gets posted on here someone has to criticize. I don't know if people are trying to be an a**hole or just trying to act like they are smarter than they really are. For God's sake it is a PSA 9!!!! I would never pay that kind of money for a card, but it is a beauty.
Wow, that sucks about your snipe not going off. Look at it this way- the winning bidder probably bid 3,000 on it so you ended up saving him a couple hundred bucks.
I use bidnapper, and I just went and checked and for some reason it didnt show as having set the snipe. I dont think it was their error, rather my own by not finalizing it as I thought. It was days ago and I didnt bother to confirm it.
Oh well, Im sure there will eventually be another card. Im not that broken up about it.
I already laid out alot of $$ this week on a '74 Deckle Munson PSA 9, so maybe its better off anyhow. Im sure another one will turn up eventually, or even a really nice PSA 8 that will do just fine for alot less $$. Heck, I was considering cracking and resubmitting one of my 2 PSA 7's to try and get a bump, so it looks like this just made my decision a bit easier !

A couple of months back one of the big auction houses ( I forget which one offhand ) had a beautiful 1979 topps Munson card with a similarly gorgeous auto that was slabbed by PSA. It went for big $$ too.
Isnt it nice to see a classy, well penned sig that is completely legible ? Some of the lousy sigs that have been posted on these boards recently are a disgrace to the school systems that educated these guys !
edited to add that even if I had intended on going after that auto I would decline on principle after seeing what the seller is asking for shipping

Wow! I never realized that Munson autos went that high. They cant be THAT rare? I suppose because there is such a high demand. Looks like the best way to buy a Munson auto is on a 70s team ball.
Most of the autos on team balls are faded or dirty ( at least most I have come across ) and he didnt do too much signing otherwise. He was a private man who didnt spend too much time signing so when something as flawless as that comes along its highly sought after.
Also, you have to remember that Munson basically only had a 9 or 10 yr window to sign at the most. Even big time HOF players like Mantle, Mays, DiMaggio, Williams, etc had 40-50 years where they were signing. And most of their sigs came after retirement when they were doing shows and signing in bulk. Munson never made it to his golden years adding to the rarity that much more.

Happy about being high bidder though.
You won that auction ?
If indeed it was you than I congratulate you, great pickup !!!
Out of curiousity, if I had set the snipe correctly would I have won or did you go higher ?
-- Yogi Berra
So I guess you saved me some denero.
Heck - I bought a T3 for like 1800$ this year - so why not that for the Munson?
It's the only 9.
Congratulations to the winner!
mike
edit: I still haven't paid for that card yet - on a credit card.
Nice pick up night
Yup, Volver makes a good point.
You certainly picked up a beauty that anyone would be proud to have in their collection.

I can see why they would go high.

I agree fully, Munsons auto is epic perfect.
If there's one thing I hate more than an auto I can't read, it's one that looks like a check mark.
