Scrap gold question?

I've got some gold dental crown's that weigh a total of 14.3 grams / 220 grains I'm fairly sure dental gold is 22 Kt. What would the scrap value be?

I also have a large peice of melted 14.Kt. weighing 13.7grams. And some other various 10 Kt. and 14 Kt. that added with the melted peice weigh a total of 23.5 gram's.

Giving me a total of all scrap being 37.8 gram's...... What would it be worth ??? Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

I'll consider selling outright, or possible trade of equal value......

This Company specializes in scrap gold. I've not used them so I won;t go so far as to endorse them, but they might be able to answer your questions.

Well 24kt is pure gold so you can figure the percentages using that as you base figure. Raw gold like that cost money to melt and certify in order to get your money out of it. Last I heard that costs about 100 an ounce for the service.image
  • I think that service is a bit steep, maybe i'll try casting a replica coin with the dental gold?

    Thank's for the replie's, Brad....

I don't remember for sure but I think dental gold is much lower grade than 22KT, more like 8-12KT for durabililty. 22k would be pretty soft and easily damaged. It has been too many years since I worked in a shop dealing with scrap...

  • Roy, Thank you for the link, I've decided to try my hand at using the Lost wax technique, it's been a long time since i have done any casting, I chose to use a Maria Thereasa Thaler, I'm currently waiting for the plaster mold to dry, so i can get my wax casting, Then i will have to acquire some Gypsum, Probably will go with a combo of Drywall compound and plaster, something that will withstand the 2 hour pre-heating of the mold. I'm going to need a good crucible to smelt this stuff in for the pour, any suggestion's?

I think the Thaler was a good choice, it has a wonderful design. and will make a nice christmas present for my mother.image
