Watching TWIB on ESPN Classic.....

An episode from 1982- really brings back memories. Highlights:

- The Pirates in skin-tight all yellow uniforms with that goof black striped hat. Very nice.

- "35 year old Nolan Ryan still going strong...." Uh, yeah Mel. He's got another 10 years left in him.

- Fernando Valenzuela- I forgot how good he was early in his career. Pretty much unhittable.

- Steve Garvey- If you would've told someone back then that Garvey wouldn't make the Hall, they'd have looked at you like you had two heads.

- Apparently Amos Otis' nickname was "The Elevator Man". I did not know that.

- Harold Baines absolutely carried the White Sox in the 80s. I always felt he was underappreciated.

- Bloopers- I forgot how much I looked forward to this segment every week. Also, it reminds me of the scene in Naked Gun where they show the bloopers on the Diamondvision, and they include a guy getting run over by a car on the field, and a tiger attacking a baserunner.

I loved this show! The '82 WS between the Brewers (Harvey's Wallbangers) and the Cards was a great one. It's unbelievable how much those '80s Cardinals teams would run on the basepaths. Great stuff!

    - Frank Robinson's HOF induction speech: "If I was out to set personal goals, I would have inserted myself into the lineup more when I was a manager/player for the Cleveland Indians. But I knew that wouldn't help us win because there were better players than Frank Robinson on the team at the time."

What a great show, and nice highlights from Lee....

Any sightings of any Baseball Bunch episodes recently? I'd love to re-watch some of those - Tim Raines teaching kids how to slide, Ted Simmons showing how he can sign his name exactly the same with each hand - fantastic memories of growing up and watching this every Saturday....

I used to love it when ESPN put on the old home run derby show from the late 50's early 60's. At least I think that is what its called. It used to matchup players i.e. Mantle, Mays, Killebrew etc. That was a lot of fun to watch. ESPN Classic has really gone way down hill. I don't know who is watching half these shows (Bowling, American Gladiator, Billiards, Poker).

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
