help identifying old glove

I don't have a pic and the glove is with a friend who is also researching it. It's a 5 finger model, no lacing through fingers, and has a metal buckle for the strap in back. Only printing is at bottom of palm. It says, "Genuine Cowhide;" "Model 147".

If that isn't enough info, I can post a pic later tomorrow or Sat.

Thanks,
raz

Yep, it's an old glove alright!!image
  • If its a buckle back, I'd put it between 1930 to 1940. Without a player endorsement or being in pristine condition, it might not yield much...

    baseballfanatic,

Thank you. I have no idea how these are graded, but I'd guess this one to be better than average. There's not only no endorsement, there's no manufacturer's name. Inside the strap, the apparent owner wrote in ink, Joe Dolan, 1944.

I bought it on a whim at a recent auction for ~$5. I think your post answers my primary question. I was hoping the model #147 might register with someone.

    Thanks again,

Razzle, Baseballfanatic is correct. I think they started lacing and webbing the fingers after the late 40s. I picked up a couple at a show circa 1930s for about $35 each. While they are not extremely valuable, they look fantastic displayed.
