given my niche of buying capped bust half dimes according to die marriage and remarriage, I buy them where I can find them. Often that means established dealers with expertise in the series like Brian Greer, Dick Osburn, or JJ Teaparty. Sometimes that means ebay, local dealers, BST, or established dealers who are not specifically die marriage specialists (e.g. Mark Feld (one CBHD from him), Pinnacle (two or three), even got one from Legend). Many of my coins come from auctions, primarily Heritage and a smattering from TT, Superior, Scotsman, but none yet from Stack's. I guess the one source not yet mentioned is one of the better sources, and that's fellow specialists in the series. They are great sources of properly-attributed material.
I buy and sell on the BST Boards, eBay, TeleTrade, online dealers, coin shops, and shows. Specific coins get sold different ways where I have found seem to do best. The coins I am looking for aren't found at many shops, shows, and rarely an online auction (Matte Proof Lincolns). I pick them up sometimes on eBay, but through sepciatly dealers mostly. Selling coins, I try them on the BST Board first, but if I need the money, I throw them up on eBay. Morgans always go the way of the bay, or take them to some Morgan dealers at a local show I go to. I take my junk stuff to shows too, the dealers there pay more for my junk than any other place. It takes time and experience finding the little "niches" of where to buy and sell.
The BST almost exclusively....other stuff at a show once in a while. Mostly because I have had good dealings with folks on the boards and gotten burned elsewhere.
Haven't sold any yet, but i buy wherever i see coins. I've bought some at garage sales and flea markets and also large shows like the Summer ANA and large auctions. If i see a nice coin i buy it, i don't care where the coins for sale at.
Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!
I don't often sell...when I do, it's on eBay or at shows.
I buy from (or through) a few established PNG dealers that I've come to know - such as Coin Rarities Online, Julian Leidman, and Angel Dee's.
Like most here, I bet, I find it best to establish a relationship with a few dealers I'm comfortable with and continue to buy from them exclusively. I've bought from others a few times but, frankly, I was often less than satisfied with those coins and ended up trading or selling them anyway.
Did Heritage, then Teletrade and have been doing eBay. They are each good for some coins but not all. I am considering just buying a table at Long Beach and setting out a nice quantity of coins (like all of my Peace dollars) and accept sealed bids for them. The fees and rules for the other venues (and eBay flakes now and then) really make things difficult despite all of the love letters we all get from them telling us how wonderful selling at auction with them is.
edit>> Oh, I buy from wherever the right coin is. My best ones have been through the best dealers and Heritage. Some great semikeys were had at tremendous overall bargains from Teletrade in the pre-Greg Manning days. The best raw coins were found at small shows and few decent cherries on eBay.

I believe the above is logical. MHO; that is advice I understand.
Seems there are various vehicles to purchase coins.
To each his own, enjoy collecting. That is important.
Bottom line: If I knew the answer; would I ask the question?

That's another way to do it, I suppose!
By volume, my most common traffic goes buy local dealer -> sell BST, followed by buy local dealer -> sell eBay.
The best things in my collection tend to come from fellow collectors either through the BST or by PM.
and my web store.......
