Generous grading because of the pedigree?

Do you agree with the FS designation on this auction? Omaha Hoard Nickel If you click the pictures it will re-direct you to heritage where you can click again for extreme close ups.

I have a few PCGS FS designated coins, they look better than this. Just curious if I am misunderstanding FS.

  • No I don't think its FS (.. Its just another example of why FS is meaningless.. Unless I had it in hand I wouldn't trust PCGS to make that call. Besides don't get too caught up in FS, there is alot more to a nickel then the steps. The two hits above the C in Montecello are enough for me to downgrade it to MS64, also looks like a bit of weakness above the N in the bottom steps. As for it getting FS becuase its Omaha Bank.. seen plenty of suffix coins that were questionable.. with no pedigree.

Thanks for replying, I kinda thought that was a questionable designation, to bad it happens as often as you state.

If that's FS then I used to have a complete collection in FS!
