Neat change find - machine doubling or worked die?

Got this in change yesterday. Almost got me excited for a minute, but thought it was neat enough to share. The nickel has all sorts of doubling going on both the obv & rev.

Neat stuff - boring to most I know, but still interesting to find for me.

Close of of WE, looks like more than doubling goin on - worn dies, tooling, who knows.

The date caught my eye first, classic machine doubling?

Much of the rev has what looks like Longacre doubling similar to this.

I think that's an abraided die that causes that. It's the same thing that caused the "poormans" double die on the 1955 Lincolns. Neat coin though.

Thanks, I didn't have my loupe when I first saw it. The date told me MD, then I saw the WE TRUST with the bolder notching and said hmmm, need to look at this one more when I get home, it has some possiblities. I have a knack for finding neat, non-valuable coins like the Die polisher's 1st day on the job? post a few weeks ago. Some day, I'll find something good, until then, I'm happy with the cheap-o neat stuff.

  • Die Deterioration Doubling. Same thing as the "poor mans double die".

Looks like a 'fatigue' type of doubling.... caused by the dies being used extensively and are well worn. Jefferson nickels seem to be very prone to this kind of doubling. As you guessed.... not worth a premium.

Keep your eyes open! The good ones are out there also!
