REWARD: 1901-s quarter wanted

Hi,
I am new to this forum. I hope I placed this topic in the right place.
I am looking for a nice 1901-s Quarter in above fine. Yes, I know it is rare. Yes, I know it will be expensive. I will pay silly money for a problem-free, original example. prefer that the coin has been graded by PCGS, NGC or ANACS. Can anybody help? I can be reached at tommythetoilet@yahoo.com Thanks, Eric

    Welcome.

The Buy, Sell and Trade Forum would be more appropriate. Perhaps a moderator will move it for you.

Why in the world are you ready to pay silly money for a coin like the 1901-S Barber Quarter?
You know lad, there's around 75 Seated Liberty Quarters that are rarer than the 1901-S.
And in the same grade, the rarer Seated Liberties will likely be cheaper.
Ask yourself, which has the most upside?

I wish you luck. I have not had any finding an AU.

Needless to say its the last coin I need to complete my set.

  • seated quarters are my new passion too.. I'm going around finding all the nicely toned VF-AU original looking coins that I can.. any and all dates are up for grabs, though I like ebay because they can be had raw for less then what many of the sites that specialize in seated quarters sell them for and I can see pictures before I buy.

There's a 1901-s in PCGS VG-10 on ebay right now.. very nice looking IMO for a VG-10.. dark toning and such. Hard coin to find, good luck!

Sorry. Didn't see that you wanted it in fine.

I think a board member unloaded his Fine specimen not long ago for a tidy sum. The price of these jumps like crazy from Good to full VG then to full Fine. Would imagine a nice fine is in the $20K+ range now.

I second Ray's inputs. For $20,000 I can pick up most of the top 20 seated quarter rarities in Fine condition (less the rare CC's). And some of these have about 150 pieces known vs. 5000 for the
1901-s. I'd be very leery of purchasing any 1901-s at current levels though I'm sure there is some room left to go. The price of a VF/XF is now at the same level a MS65 brought in the mid-1990's.

Yes, it was a very tidy sum, also I would like to mention that another friend of mine from ohio, after seeing me sell mine got the notion to purchase him one and paid 28k for a PCGS-40, imo was decent and really a 35?

  • I am almost done with the Barbers then I will start with the Seated quarters. Finding a nice 1901-s to upgrade the one I got isn't about making a smart investment - I just want to be done with the set. Looking forward to putting the Seated set together though.
  • what is bccs?
  • hi,
do you know if he would sell it?

I did a little bit of digging and located the image of Jim Dimmick's 1901-S. I guess my memory was
clowded as the coin is an obvious F 12-15...closer to F15, IMHO.

Its a great looking coin, regardless of the grade:

And...Jim D, if you're reading this ... what happened to your customer
with that other 01-S half dollar that I want to buy ??
