You can't really tell the year without looking inside the case.

For what it is worth, they typically are basically a single sheet from a single year, and just hoardes and hoardes of cards (a few thousand), giving you something like 50-80 cards per player on that sheet that comprises the cut card case.

At least that is my recollection.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I had some cut card cases back in the 80's. If I remember right they contained around 8,000 cards all from a certain sheet. I think you usually got around 60 - 70 of each player on the sheet. It seems like there was some way of telling what year and sheet the case was from but I can not remember for sure. The quality of the cards (at least the centering) tends to vary quite a bit.
Always looking to buy old Minnesota Twins and Vikings memorabilia like Nodders, Photo Pennants, and Photo Buttons.

I have gone through a few of these. Quality of the cards is often not that good, as the cards are loose in the case. Sometimes you get lucky with a run in the middle of a pile or row, but for the most part, it's not a good source for gradeable cards.
