PR70 PR69 splitting the split hair

morgansforevermorgansforever Posts: 8,484 ✭✭✭✭✭
Hello fellow members. Is it likely this 95S will come back a PR70DCAM?

I bought a group of 5 over the weekend that are all worthy of grading, and just have that feeling that I'm missing something.

These coins are perfect IMO, no hairlines, hits, breaks in the luster, dings, spots etc...........

According to PCGS, 73 have been slabbed PR70DCAM, so maybe I have a shot?

If the piece is flawless, what do the graders look for to bring it down a point?

My boss is coming, thanks in advace for your input.

  • Very nice piece. It's hard to tell a 69 from a 70 grading by picture but I say it definetly has a good chance. Congrats beautiful coin image

The coin in hand is simply stunning, under 5x, nothing that I can see.

  • The strike on the eagles shield does look a little weak.

In hand the shield is strong, and bold, crappy pic.

What are the distracting marks on the reverse above the arrows? Simply dust or some kinda minute dings on the coin?

I would like for Russ to weigh in on this one, but it seems really nice to me.

They're almost certainly on the plastic.

Some of the roughness on the left middle of the shield (and top) might be marks though.

I'm guessing 69 but you really can't tell from a photo. There is not a big spread between these grades and this appears to be at least a high-end 69 which makes it that much more difficult.

It should be mentioned this is the silver version. It at least appears to be. The silver might be held to a little higher standard.

Is it likely? Of course not. Statistics dictate it's a crapshoot, and not in your favor.

It's just dust, both sides IMO, are flawless.

Coin was shot in raw form.

The better coins tend to end up in the high grade slabs. Statistics become important
when you're sending in quantities of coins but the better coins still tend to end up in
    the higher grade holders.

  • Nice reverse on that coin and great picture.

This thread scares the you know what out of me. I have some proofs I am sending in next month and I am starting to worry.

It's also clean (or nearly so).

I wish I could take a nice pic like that! Is there a rim anomaly near the N in United on the rev? My own mediocre photos show up alot that doesn't look significant to the eye, and I don't see anything of concern in this photo, so I'd say that this coin is a contender.
