Looking to Start Trading, Especially Cleveland.

Hi everybody, I am new to this and just started getting many of my cards least year but found the forum and would like to get into more trading, buying/selling and learning more about it. I just bought a pack of the TOPPS 2007 cards and noticed that it is a huge forum so I would possibly like to get started with those, I'm also into the new Turkey Red cards and am looking to complete my 2006 set, I have some duplicates that I could trade and I'm also a Cleveland Indians fan so if anybody has Cleveland cards or I would like to talk to you. Thanks guys! image

Good to see a fellow-Cleveland fan on the boards. I'm more into the Browns than the Indians but still a major fan of both. Could explain my constant crankiness but you gotta have hobbies.

    Greetings 4peas,

I moved away from (Shaker Heights, Ohio) 45 years ago! I was in the 7th grade, going to Woodbury Junior High!

I really loved the Indians, loved to go to the game, loved that olde scoreboard, HRs and the fireworks! It was a cool place to learn the game of baseball and to be a kid, growing up!

Well, we moved to NYC (i.e., Yankees and the Mets!).

I was a kid no more! image

    rd

Just a heads-up: There is a "Buy, Sell & Trade" - Sports" thread here. Just click the navigation (top right) and u will find that link. There are plenty of fun deals to be had there!

Here's a nice way to break the ice: And get u "kick-started" on the CU threads! How about an "Eck-man" rookie card for ya?

    image

  • Welcome to the board! You'll love it here!

So do you have an idea of how vast your collection is going to be? Planning on building team sets or just pick up cards from certain Indians and build a couple full card sets? If you are looking to build team sets from the last 20 years or so I should be able to fill in holes you might have as I have bought tons of bulk lots in filling up my nearly-overflowing 8 binders of Tribe cards. I'm not uber complete myself, but I'm at least getting kinda close image I do also have a couple duplicates from pre-80 Tribe cards if thats your thing, but not too many as bulk on these is usually hard to find. Oh and dont know if I would call myself a Guru (hehehe, thanks Mike) but I definitely have a bunch you might be interested in and could possibly answer some questions.

Drop me a line and give me an idea of what you might like and I will see what I can do. I also have a pitiful 'attempted set' on the Turkey Reds, have quite a few commons and a few of the SPs so also LMK what you are needing as far as they go.

    Welcome to the board!

To send a PM you need to enable the PM feature in your profile. Not 100% sure where thats at in the profile, but I'm sure you can find it. Once you do, drop me a PM with your addy, as I just came across a sealed 1996 Topps team set (at least I believe it is) of the Indians. I never opened it, but it has Omar Vizquel on top and a Sean Casey rookie on bottom and both are Indians. It's yours for the price of a PM. image

Again, welcome to the board. image

  • Hey guys I just wanted to say thanks for the warm welcome, I'm really looking forward to trading with you but is there anyone here that can give me some more pointers? Maybe tell me what you are looking for, I may have it, I'm really most interested in building my Indians card collection most of all so I do have many cards I am willing to part with to do so. Let me know, thanks.

  • Turn your pm on. Most guys won't trade untill they can pm or email you.
  • I am an avid collector from Streetsboro. I have been collecting for 30+ years. Let me know if I can be of any assistance and trust me - you will not find a bigger Cleveland fan. By the way, who do you like in the NBA finals, the Cavaliers or Mavericks???
  • WOOHOO! another Tribe fan!
  • Ahhhh ok guys, I just figured out how to turn my PM's on so if somebody was trying to message me and was not able to then please try again!

  • Hey Indians 2007, thanks for the message. I have to say that I am not a huge basketball girl, I'm baseball and Cleveland all the way so I can't say that I pref anybody in the playoffs. My former sweetie got me started with baseball and the Indians and they've held a very special place in my heart ever since and probably always will so I really want to build my collection of cards, especially autographed and jersey. In the future though I'm hoping to get other items like bats, jerseys, artwork, etc... I've started my collection with a Rocky Colavito that was a gift and I have a numberd and signed Bob Feller DonRuss leather cut card, an Upper Deck Travis Hafner signature card and a signed Mark Lewis card. (also a gift) I don't really have a huge collection started yet which is why I joined the boards. I do have what I would call a pretty good sized beginner sized stack of cards (Indians and others) but I'm not quite sure if they are worth trading or not, some are from the late 80's and 90's, which I know is when they printed a ton of cards and over stuffed the card market, or at least that's what I've been told. So if you'd like, send me a PM or a message on here and I'd like to talk to you about getting started.

  • So anyway, I have a near complete extra set of the 07 Topps S1 cards you mentioned, tons of Tribe cards (probably enough for at least 2 books) and a few rookies (Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome etc) which you should have in starting your collection. I also have an extra Ryan Garko (current rookie 1st baseman) autograph, a GU card or two that you'll appreciate and even have plans to meet Al Rosen real soon (1953 MVP and on last WS winning team ~ look him up in Wikipedia) and should be able to get you a personalized photo signed by him (not a guarantee but…).

When I heard you were looking to start trading here, especially Cleveland, I just assumed you were another livin' in Cleveland?

edit: Good luck in your trades and have fun here! (At least you can catch a couple of Indian games per year at the Angel Stadium of Anheim!). I think the worst thing that will happen if you root for Cleveland in Anheim, someone may attempt to be "politically correct" by throwing a recycled paper cup towards your seats! I showed-up at a Mets/Phillies game, rooted for the Mets at the "Vet" in Phila some years ago. Hell! They threw bottles at us! image

    Hi 4peas

    Welcome!

How did you pick the name?

On great Cleveland Indians - I collect board games - here's a cool Feller game I picked up last year.
The interesting thing is that the company who makes it also produces a generic version which doesn't feature Feller on the cover.

    This is a hard one...

You can go back and edit out your posts and I'll remove mine if Goot does the same - this all disappears.

But, with all due respect - you put that stuff out there - what did you expect in an open public forum?

Of course it's gonna be questioned.

To be honest, it didn't totally register till Goot posted it and I thought about it.

The two of you have become the unwitting straightmen in a Seinfeld episode - ya gonna have to ride this one out.

IMO, ya brought this on yourself.

    Mike
  • hahaha...

... yeah it just wasnt/isnt that big of a deal I dont think and people are free to believe what they like. I was going to edit it out, but didnt think it would stay at the top and whats the point really ~ its already here and now people have even quoted it.

Its one of those things where a little bit of information was shared and upon being asked for more a polite "not telling image " could have been given. Anything more and I would expect people to respect that wish ~ and if asked in another way who knows, maybe more would have been explained.

And like I did say, dont feel slighted because of the replys ~ they were to the Abbot and Castillo act it went through there for a min, not the topic at hand.

    Shea

    Shea

Just to be clear - "I" was just having a bit of fun.

I'm not sure why Goot quoted you with a question.

If he was thinking like me? I DON'T want details - the question mark was more - why is this being put on an open forum type thing?

I can get this by watching Jerry Springer - again with all due respect - what you guys did comes under the category of too much information.

You guys - if by coincidence - come here at the same time - and if by coincidence - just happen to use the same Icon - who am I to question that? image

This is all about a little fun tho. At the end of the day - the earth's still rotating - I hope? image

    Friends?
    mike
    Mike
  • Mike...

    "Friends?"
... never anything but! I hope it didnt come off as that in my posts ~ it was never an intent one bit!

Yeah, its really just a matter of "it was posted, it wasnt a huge deal, it was forgotten, its now brought up again" kind of things. Again, dont thinks its a huge deal, and the circumstances around it might be strange ~ but more to us than to everyone else I imagine! I doubt anyone here would care if we know/knew eachother and happened to show up about the same time ~ why would they?

And like you said, you were never invasive (which I realized that earlier and never thought you were!), its obvious you were just joking around with Goot and us.

Really, I think the only reason we are even talking about it is because of the multiple identical posts ~ and even our replies to that were not intended as an insult to either of you (well, I can speak to mine and the PM from 4Ps to me seems to imply the same).

Oh, and the icon thing is just me letting 4Ps know that mine could be used if another isnt found ~ its just an Indians picture though and I have seen a couple people post using someone elses before. Again, just didnt mean anything so didnt think it would be a big deal image

Nah, I wouldnt get upset with anyone trying to have a conversation ~ and you have definitely done that. Are we cool? We were never anything but in my mind...

    More than cool Shea!

The mulitple replies is part of the CU technique sometimes used to be funny and nothing else.

And I can't speak for Goot but I wasn't pissed or anything - I just wanted to insure that you guys weren't pissed and realize we were having fun but it was OUT THERE for use to poke fun at - if ya know what I mean.

We now, return to our regular programming.

Pandrews, you have now given two posts in this thread which do not seem to be regarding baseball or anything implied in anyones words. These posts also both seem to be derogatory in nature ~ because of it I have to question the intent behind your involvement and would like to ask you to please remove at least the last comment, if not both.

no im not gonna remove them.. "derogatory" depends on how someone looks at it.. how do you determine that my posts had nothing to do with baseball, anyway? i said "i'd hit it".. and i would.. all the way to home plate, unless im only allowed to reach 3rd base..

ps: i'd hit it for 9 innings straight..

now, if i saw a picture, i might change my mind..

  • Pandrews,

So you can explain how your second post isnt derogatory then? That is afterall the one I requested be removed as I see absolutely no possible reason for that to be added to a collecting message board ~ esp one where kids might read it... And now even your most recent display; that too has some other meaning to it does it?

Well I asked; if you refuse what can I do? If you choose to show your true level of classlessness then it’s your choice I guess; I would just feel embarrassed if I was you and figured you would maybe be socially conscious enough to see that yourself and oblige.

... but maybe you feel it proper to be obscene to others and in front of kids? Is that the attitude you hold, what ever you do is fine and you should never have to think of another person what so ever? You know, don’t answer that ~ you’ve already shown your answer…

my second post actually says "welcome to the board".. so i assume youre talking about my 3rd post.. and its only derogatory if you regret that you boned 4peas back in the day.. if she's really hot you should be proud of it though..
