My guess is that these are replicas and that he would have gotten more interest selling them off one at a time to make them appear more rare.

If they weren't $80, I can see the kids using this to pass notes in school or hide cheat sheets; if a teacher comes by, they could tell them it's their good luck 50 cent piece

I should print that for the teacher's break room at work - you never know...

Nothing is going to attract more attention in a handful of change than a 50-cent piece. They're barely recognizable as coins; I'm lucky that the fast-food clerks just laugh when I spend them rather than wondering what the heck they are.

Look, if you are going to get a coin hollowed out for whatever reason, you might as well do it right. If I machined this one right, I bet I could smuggle a pizza, a pound of fine Swiss chocolates, a box of Cuban cigars... the list is endless.

its a piece you can get at about any magician shop for WAY under $80.
i have one as well as a few other neat trick coins.

The seller must be referring to the hollow Ike pieces appearing in his linked articles. Indeed, the Kennedys most likely are used more than one-and-a-half-inch wide, one-ounce Ike dollars these days.

Whatever interest the CIA might have had in these tools has probably diminished as halves and "silver dollars" vanished from circulation. Unless of course they're now working with hollowed-out Delawares and Connecticut SHQs....
