Football collectors, help me out.....I found a pot of gold......

Or at least I think I did. A guy I know here in town came across 128 '52 Bowman large cards at an estate sale. He has all but 12 cards in the entire series, including most of the SP's and valuable cards. Many dupes too, including several SP's. Condition wise, the cards range between 5 and 7........for the most part, really nice, presentable cards. No doubt a few of these would get 7's. Most are very well centered.

I can get them for about 20-25% of high Beckett (he doesn't use SMR). I know nothing about this set. Would this be worth it? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron

Well to start, the entire series I thought was 144 cards, so he can't have all but 12 of the entire series and still have 128 cards with duplicates.

That being said, if the cards would grade in that range, 25% of beckett would be a steal. If the Jim Lansford card is in the lot, adjust your bid accordingly.....i.e., pay a $hitload more.

On the surface, that sounds like a tough deal to turn down, I'd have to see scans to be sure.

Best of luck on your decision. The set books for nearly $11,000 in PSA 6 according to SMR.

Ah, let me correct. He has 59 different out of the 71 cards in the second series of the large set. And plenty of dupes as you can tell. Bad news: No Lansford or Landry, but he does have 2 of Ronzani (incl. one that is NM), one Vitamin Smith, one Bobby Layne, one Joe Stydahar, 3 of Hubert Johnston, 2 Grozaz, one Lavelli, 2 Waterfields, and probably others that I can't remember. So it's second series only. Out of the 128 cards, I'd say 50% are Ex-Mt, 40% are Ex, and 10% are NM. Most cards are fairly well centered, only one that I recall is badly O/C.

He also has about 100 cards from the small set, including 2 Landry RC's, but these are in far worse condition.

    Sweet find!

I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

Buy 'em, grade em, and send them off to whichever auction house gives you the best deal. Don't be afraid to overpay based on Beckett, and keep in mind that they do a lot better than beckett or smr with decent grades.

Shawn is right about pay more, but don't be too anxious/excited. On the other hand, don't be too cheap and lose the deal.

The Ronzani should do well, he is a SP packers coach. You get 52L collectors and Packers collectors at the same time.

  • Definitely buy. Even PSA 5's and 6's for those SP's trade at premiums. Do the deal quickly and you'll be able to submit most of them under the $8 special.

Yeah, what they all said above.

At 25% of Beckett and based upon what you've said, I think you've got a home run waiting for you.

Good luck and keep us posted image
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
