Most local coin clubs are not controlled by dealers.
Most specialized collecting societies, such as EAC, JRCS, are not controlled by dealers.
Many dealers belong to these groups, but the dealers do not control them.
PNG member, numismatic dealer since 1965. Operates a retail store, also has exhibited at over 1000 shows. I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Interestingly, the two local clubs where I live are governed, at least in part, by dealers.
I think it would beneficial for the hobby for there to be a large coin organization that is entirely governed by collectors, for collectors, with the objective of making collectors' issues known to and considered by the major numismatic enterprises. From my vantage point, the ANA is an organization run by dealers, and they represent collectors as they think we should want to be represented.
The ANA is not run by dealers. There are dealers on the board. There are more collectors on the board.
The majority of the annual budget, I think, is a function of dealer participation, especially in the 2 conventions, as well as donations, advertising, etc.
A no dealers allowed organization could not grow to be the size or importance of either the ANA or the ANS.
Since dealers are involved in numismatics 24/7, they are an important component of any large and active numismatic organization.
