waterproof holders?

So the recent flooding here in NJ got me thinking about water damage and holders.

Have any of you ever taken a PSA holder, or any of the other companies holders out there and submersed them in water (a bucket, for example) for an extended period of time? I was thinking of a little controlled experiment with some cards that are virtually worthless and giving this a try and cracking them out in the end to see the dampness level, if any.

I don't have any flooding problems and survived our big storm just fine, but it just got me wondering.....

I don't think they are waterproof. There used to be a poster on these boards that conducted various 'experiments' with graded card slabs. You can Google 'Cracking BGS/PSA slabs' and check out Bruce Moreland's (BruceMo) site. It's very entertaining...

    They are not waterproof.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I believe the term is waterTIGHT.

    Waterproof ; adjective (from dictionary.com)
    1. impervious to water.
    2. rendered impervious to water by some special process, as coating or treating with rubber: a waterproof hat.

    Watertight ; adjective
    1. constructed or fitted so tightly as to be impervious to water: The ship had six watertight compartments.
    2. so devised or planned as to be impossible to defeat, evade, or nullify: a watertight contract; a watertight alibi.

    doesn't either definition work? image

regardless, thanks for the information everyone. I think I'll still give it a go and let you know the results.

I have done just about anything imaginable to slabs. I once boiled a newer PSA slab and it was water tight. The older slab not sealed as tight took in water like the Titanic. I've done other companies slabs as well at their request.

I have dipped and rinsed slabs.

    They seem to be water-resistant.

    Generally, they are not waterproof.
