I have narrowed it done to either 2004 or 2005 Topps set, would like to have a current set in a binder just to take a look at stats and nice photography:
I'd go with 2004. I personally can't stand the overly flashy 2005 (and 2006) Topps Designs. 2004 focuses your eyes on the photo, not the junk surrounding it.
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.
I still need to get a 2005 and 2006 set. That 2005 design looks pretty good, actually, plus my wife will like the cards in that set that commemorate her Red Sox winning the championship the previous year. I guess I keep putting it off because our funds are quite limited and I want to focus on harder to find things, whereas the 2005 and 2006 sets are very easy to find.
2004 for sure, the team name is much better then the last name.
Just don't go for all 2004-2006 at once....the eye strain would be horrible.

Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
I like the layout of the 2004 better, but...when you are old and your eyesight goes you will not be able to read the players name....so go with the 2005 = thinking of the future enjoyment of the set.
I collect Seattle Pilots autographs, 1969 Topps autographs, Signed Mickey Mantle Home Run History cards and have a JC Martin collection (he was my college Baseball coach) Doug

But what if I'm building a Topps set run and have no choice? I'm up to 1976-2004 at the moment, and I LOVE that 2007 set, but you can't get it w/o the 2005 and then the 2006 first, right?

Sorry must have been blank when you saw post, I hit the enter button on accident!!
Ah, I see.
Given those two choices, I'd go with 2005.
