Visited Heritage today

Punched the address into the GPS and left Keller for the 34 minute (according to the GPS) drive to Heritage. The stupid thing was wrong, it took me 36 minutes....

I met with Paul for about an hour and I can tell you what a super down to earth guy. He showed me around a little bit, it is quite the operation. They were still drying out carpet from the burst water pipe, I guess other than some wet desks, no big deal (thank goodness). This was my first visit ever to Dallas (having just moved to TX last month).

One place that I have always wanted to visit is Dealey Plaza where President Kennedy was shot some 44 years ago. Turns out it's only about 1 mile from Heritage, so off I went. In 1963 I was 11 years old and in the 6th grade in Santa Barbara, CA when we were told the President had been shot. Being a history buff, seeing the actual location where this happened was almost surreal. The Book Depository, the "grassy knoll", the "x's" on the street showing where Kennedy was when he was hit. Looking out the window where Oswald shot from is just creepy. I could feel the hair go up on the back of my neck just knowing I was standing where events happened that changed history.

Five years later when I was in High School, I shook hands with Robert Kennedy the day before he was shot (but that's another story)

So, to keep this on a coin thread, show off a nice toned Kennedy Half Dollar!

Last time I was at the Texas School Book Depository, you couldn't look out the 6th-floor window Oswald shot from. It was glassed off, part of the museum they have their now. How'd you manage?

When I say looked out, I meant from the window right next to the one he fired from. The actual window is still plexiglassed off. Close enough to still be a chilling experience.
