Why the price difference in Mantle '52 TOPPS/Bowman ?

I understand, really well, the forces of supply and demand
in the collectibles market.
What has caused the huge difference in price/demand between
the 1952 TOPPS Mantle and the 1952 Bowman Mantle?
When did the market first begin to decide that the TOPPS card was
"the one?"
Is it possible that the Bowman is "underpriced?"

Storm, good question and one I have often wondered about, Also with the 51 Bowman being his rookie card.
Wasn't the 52 topps double printed?
also the 51 not the 52 bowman is his rookie card from that set.
the 52 topps card is full sized while the bowman is not
the 52 topps card was abundant therefore it was marketable.
the 52 topps card has stats on the back the bowmans do not.
in the 80's when the mantle cards started to move almost everyone wanted topps.
To answer the question posed though the 52 topps is valued over the 52 bowman simply because it is his first topps card while the 52 bowman is his second.
