New rip- strange choices......

I had a nice business trip to Atlantic City this past week, so the only way I know to reward myself besides going out and spending too much money at an overpriced steakhouse is to buy myself something to rip. Historically I've always gone for something from the late 70s to mid 80s, but I've really burned myself out on that stuff the past few years, so I decided to go with something different:

A case of 1994 Pinnacle Series 2 (18 boxes)- $180
1993 Finest box- $275

The 93 Finest box is truly a gamble because the success or failure hinges on one card. I asked Steve to crack the box and check to make sure the refractor pack (wrapped differently than the other packs) was there and he said it was. Also, I have no idea what something like a regular PSA 10 Ripken or Ryan ($50 maybe?) would go for, so maybe I could recoup some of the cost even if I don't pull a decent refractor.

The 94 Pinnacle case is really a can't lose proposition I think. The Museum cards (1:4) are really hot right now, and the Artist Proofs and other inserts sell relatively strong for mid-90s junk inserts. Just about any PSA 10 would be a low pop, and if I do luck out and get something like a McGwire Museum PSA 10, that's probably a $100 card. Even if I don't do well, I got to open 18 boxes with the chance at getting something decent for under $200.

Package was shipped today- will let you know when they get here.

Cubby, I didn't mean to say it was a lock that I will make money off the 94 Pinnacle case. What I was getting at is the cards have some resale value, so regardless of how good the rip is, I'm not going to lose that much. I probably won't make that much either if it's a good rip.

Edit to say that the enjoyment I will get out of ripping a case of 94 Pinnacle would offset a $40 loss on the case.

Okay, Lee explanation accepted. I kind of jumped the gun with
my response anyways. No harm, no foul.

OK good. I didn't wanna have to go all Cobra Kai on you. By the way, am I the only person slowly getting more creeped out by my avatar?

With this playing in the background, yes.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Did you know that the guy who played Dutch is Steve McQueen's son? Not quite living up to the family name is he?

Sure did. You spoke too soon on him not living up to the family name. He is soon to be starring in the Towering Inferno 2 due out in the summer of 2008.

There are always those that do not live up to the family tree. Chad Lowe, Don Swayze and Daniel Baldwin.

I just learned that in Karate Kid III the guy who plays Terry Silver was actually one year younger than Ralph Macchio when they filmed the movie.

You gotta love Karate Kid III- A billionaire businessman takes time out out of his busy schedule and spends thousands of dollars to hire a World Karate Champion to emabarass a kid who won a local Karate Championship 5 years ago.

Funny enough, that's the type of stupid crap I would do if I were a billionaire.

No Sting, the Billionaire trains Daniel and "makes his knuckles bleed", but the Karate Champion picks on Daniel just like Johnny Lawrence.

That would be the inimitable 'Mike Barnes', if my sources (Wikipedia) are correct.

Also, Silver was a war buddy of Creese who served in Vietnam, which is laughable in itself considering the actor was probably about 3. And yeah, it was Mike Barnes who I think was a Karate champ in real life, but I could be wrong about that.
