A fellow Board Member asked me to post this. Anyone know ...

Anyone into errors know what causes this?

Thanks.

I had a similar dime a while back but mine had the full date.
I believe the consensus was that this type of error is called an 'collar clash'.

    Thanx David.

The In and the We are pretty much gone and there is something going on in front of his face, too.

    This is from clashed dies.
    tempus fugit extra philosophiam.
  • I think he is talking more about the details on the obverse and reverse. This is a clashed die error. The dies come together without a planchet between them. The dies "clash" and impart details to each other that then end up on the next few coins that are struck by that pair of dies until the details are obliterated by the further striking of coins.

    Have Fun,

Thanks guys. The owner will most certainly check this thread out eventually.

I suppose he'll identify himself when he logs on.

If not, at least he's had his questions answered thanks to you guys. image

OK Jim. It's up and been opinions rendered.

Looks like a die clash by consensus.image

Thanks for the info everyone, and thanks for posting Boom....

Collect raw morgans, walkers, mercs, SLQ, barber q. Looking at getting into earlier date coins pre 1900s.

  • Do these "clashed die errors" bring a premium? I seem to notice them on modern Roosies more than any other coin, but usually just spend them. Are they worth more with if the clash is harsher as this one appears or a little less as there isn't a full date?
