I like the Eddie Plank reprint with the rare back. Nothing quite like a rare variation of a reprinted card to get the blood pumping....

I guess the problems happen when the buyers of these pieces of crap list them on ebay in a few weeks, after these auctions disappear. I can see my father in law buying an offgrade mantle or one of the fake babe ruth autos.

I clicked on that link from the page with the uncut T206 strip and couldn't believe someone would do that, much less buy it. Unreal.

Just glad to be here with everyone.
  • He did it on purpose? Wow… now that’s classic!

BTW, I’m currently selling some cards of my own and if anyone is interested in similar cards with the “aged” effect I happen to have a bunch of 80s originals!!! Can you imagine that, not only do you get the great looking aged cards, but it’s a real card instead of a reprint!!! And if that isn’t enough, the ‘wear’ to your card is actual real ‘age wear’!!! Nope, you don’t get some new card I make look old; you get an actual old card that looks old!!! Cards of note include true greats like Alex Cole & Jody Reed!!! And as that isn’t enough, I’m going to throw in an added bonus to the first ten orders ~ a true ‘aged’ Rookie Card from the classic 1986 Topps set! That’s right folks, you get not 1, but 2 vintage aged cards, one of which will be a rookie card from that hard to find set!

Act now as at only $15.99 each these will go like hot cakes!

I lived with a guy in college who's last name was Henson and this is just the kind of business model he would come up with.

I've got some 07 Heritage that I took in the bathroom with me one night and "aged" image

You want to see something really disturbing. Check out hammer price on this fake. P.T. Barnum was 100% correct.

I wonder if Gary is aware of this "new" buisness opportunity? I wonder is there are reprint wrappers to customize your selection ?

  • Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't see what's wrong with this. He clearly marks it as a reprint. And it kinda reminds me of what I might do back in the day.
About 10 years ago, my dad was putting a new attic floor in. So my brother and I took this Honus Wagner reprint we had (remember that whole set that came with the Nap Lajoie about 20 years back?) Anyway, we 'aged it' and then placed it under the floorboards before he could tear them out. When he found it, he almost died... for a split second, his heart skipped a beat. But we let him in on it. And we all thought it was hilarious. It was a gag gift. Had there been ebay back then, I very probably would have purchased that card and hid it in the attic instead of aging it myself. It's a gret family memory that we still talk about. I don't really see anything wrong with it. It's like selling 'print paintings' on manufactured 'canvas.' It's not the real thing, clearly marked, but it looks good. And it makes for great conversation. Am I alone in this? Does anyone else feel this guy is selling 'entertainment?'

Sure THAT GUY is selling entertainment, but what happens when the buyer lists that same card, makes up the grandfather story, and lists it on ebay as an original? Not so much the Wagner, but some of the other crap he has listed like a reprint babe ruth auto, or his other reprint cards that are doctored. Somebody new at collecting might know about the Wagner reprints that are everywhere but might not know that reprints exist for other cards too. That new collector ends up buying one of these cards and gets ripped off thinking he's buying a real card in poor shape.

  • Yeah, but how is that any different from the art store down the block selling on-canvas reproduction Picassos (clearly marked as having been done by art students in the area), for $25-30 bucks? They look great in the living room but I know what I'm getting as a buyer. How can they prevent me from selling it as an original? They can't. It's not their duty to. It's up to the buyer to be an ethical seller. And up to the eventual buyer to do his homework and be wary. No?

"And up to the eventual buyer to do his homework and be wary. No? "

    ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

    No.

The chances of a fake famous painting - as described - being passed on
    as genuine is ZERO.

The chances of the fake BB card being passed on as "may be real, but I
have no idea for sure, but my uncle thinks so," is about 100%.

    Further..........

If the cards still have the "copy/replica" imprint on the back, there is no
EBAY-violation and no federal violation. If that imprint is missing/removed,
the cards violate EBAY-TOS and federal statutes.
