That Ozzie Smith play that was number one is amazing. I actually get goose bumps every time I see it. I also really like the Edmonds catch. Of course I'm a Cardinals fan so I may be a little biased. image

I gotta give the Edmonds catch the nod over Ozzie. That was amazing.

  • Amazing! I remember listening to that Buck Martinez game on the radio and all the announcers (Tom Cheek and Jerry Howarth) could talk about was that Gorman Thomas didn't bowl Buck over the second time around. He kinda tiptoed around him. They thought was a classy move. And it was. Thomas made a lot of fans in Toronto that day.

Still, I thought Kevin Mitchell's barehanded running pop up catch would be included.

Thanks for the link! I have to add a vote for Ryan Freel's catch of an Albert Pujol's warning track shot:

I actually would have included that over the Aaron Rowand (Sp?) catch if it were up to me. Although the Rowand catch was great, I have seen others that were better. He got points just because he broke his nose. If that hadn't happened I don't think it would be in the top 25.

Didn't Jeter make sore rediculous catch last year diving into the crowd and tearing up his face? ... or did he not make the catch? If he didn't make the catch, does that lessen the greatness? Web Gem Effort maybe?

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

I don't think he made the catch. But either way the effort was amazing. Sacraficing your body like that is what every millionaire athlete should be willing to do. Unlike the "athletes" that jog to a ball and catch it on a hop when if they would have actually ran they would have made the out. That pisses me off. Sorry. I will step off of my soap box now.

Jeter did make the catch on that play. It was probably early July 2004 against the Sox. The game is infamous here in Boston because it showed how far Jeter was willing to go for his team (diving face-first into the crowd for a catch), while Nomar sat on the bench and didn't play because of some bogus injury he came up with in his mind. Nomar was gone from here a few weeks later, and we had a World Series crown later in the year!

I actually saw both the Edmonds and Mitchell catches on TV. You're right, the Mitchell one should be in there. The Edmonds and GM Jr. catches are just ridiculous.

I was thinking of this as I was watching the top 10. Maybe I am so impressed because I was watching it on tv at that time, and I remember thinking to myself, "That's the greatest catch I've ever seen"

Now off to watch your link. Thanks.

Awesome, just awesome. I love those highlight films.

I was at the Mariners game when Griffey broke his wrist. The good old days when we had talent, notice Randy Johnson pitchng, Griffey in the outfield, Alex Rodriguez on the way.
what happened to all that mariner talent?
