I really thought I'd get mostly 8s and 9s...not a single 9!

My favorite was the Chico Cardenas that I just bought raw as a NM/MT+ upgrade! It was a 5...image

At least you got a fast turnaround on your grades! So there is one positive.
I think the 68s are a little tougher to see the surface wrinkles and such, especially on the back. I used to have a Mantle that my sister sat on (I was a little kid and grading wasn't in the picture yet). You could see the crease on the front, but the back really took some looking to see it.

Will this submission put you at #68 for the '68s?? PSA8s in these cards ain't bad!

    Ouch !

And to answer your question, probably not image

If you are new to grading you have my sympathy. It can be a tough go if you are inexperienced and dont really know what to look for. Often times before someone is familiar with grading they are way off on their expectations.

I strongly suggest you take a good look at the 8's you got under an excellent light source with a 10X loupe, making sure you recognize what a NM/MT card exhibits condition wise. Pay close attention to all details. Centering, edges, corners, and particularly the surface as this is where many of your lower grades probably were affected.

Aside from the Mantle and maybe a half dozen others you wont even recoup what it cost to grade, so it is an expensive lesson that many of us learn at the beginning.

    Better luck next time image

Sure, just get a prescription windshield.

    Tough break on those 68's.

As The Book of the SubGenius would illustrate,

PSA graders could learn to relax while on the job, then maybe they would have cut u a little slack on those 8's? image

I agree with hoof. 8s are not bad, especially the Mick in 8 is a nice card to have.

the heck with glasses get lasik so you can see the wrinkles from the other side of the room. the mantle helps soften the blow on everything else though

I gues having your grades in 5 business days on a couple subs wasn't worth it. I hope I fare better since my subs are in the 30 bd range right now. to wait this long and get hammered would hurt.

We all have had to learn how to send cards to PSA. I lost a lot of money in the beginning grading cards. I don't think you need glass, unless this was your 40th submission, you need experience/knowledge of what qualifies as a PSA 8.
Your turn around is awesome. I am still waiting for a submission that was received by PSA on 1-21-07, logged in on 2-21-07. You have to love this.

Nope. It's up to date...until later this week. I have some crossovers I'm waiting on too. Thye were submitted with the larger order, and haven't been posted yet.

Thanks I'll need it. I actually have several 9s so far, so I could see some 7s and 8s, but not 5s. I really have to look at them again.

You are correct. My next submission will have my avatar tepd on every stack for good luck.

Thanks, I agree too. I thought I'd get a few 9's though. Hopefully next time. The mantle is really nice. I might try to resubmit it.

Probably too many narcotics is more like it.

Yeah, it wasn't so bad. It took abnout a month to get them back from shipping them out. I'm guessing because they are all from the same set it made it a bit easier. They still have a few crossovers though that haven't been graded yet.

I would be interested in some of those 68's will you trade or sell any of them?

  • Hi Mule. At this point, I'm still going to keep virtually everything until I can upgrade them. However, I do have 50+ raw cards that I have two or three of and two graded doubles Reggie Smith PSA 7, and Vada Pinson PSA 8. These dupes would probably range from 5-8. (But remember, my grading sucks.) A few are actually pretty nice because I had a PSA 9 to replace them.

Let me know what you're looking for.

Seems like they are just moving on in the days. The last few days I've seen grades popping it's been stuff submitted on 4/2, then 4/3...now 4/4. My stuff was submitted 4/5 (well, logged anyway). Maybe that means I can expect something on Thursday or Friday! That would be nice. image

Tough break on some of those, but a Mick in an 8 ain't too shabby. image

No, it's not bad at all. I think I paid about $100 for it a few years ago, probably 7 or 8 years actually. Bit it is reaaly nice. I really wanted the 9.

As Bri2327 said, buy a 10x loupe. They're about $20 and they'll save you thousands in grading fee's over time.

Still, for grading those without a loupe you didn't do too badly. There's some good grades in there. The Mantle 8 helps.
