John Adams dollar prediction..................

Unless there is an early and significant error found I can't see the mint being able to push 150,000,000 of these out the door.

Around here banks still have plenty of GWs left and I doubt the JAs will have the level of interest that GW had unless there is a speared/DDO/Godless/Dateless error identified early on to stoke the interest of collectors.

The lack of demand for these dollars is going to cause so real problems for the treasury down the road. They don't seem to have thought this through. Just how many of these are they really going to be minting once they get a few years down the road?

And the time becomes ripe to discontinue the dollar bill... hmmmm what a coincidence... image Cheers, RickO

it would be sweet to see the one dollar bill vanish, the only way to get the dollar coins in circ.

merchants can use the dollar bill tray for their paperclips and that would free up a slot for the dollars.

and get rid of pennies AND nickels, too.

The banks in my town, 400,000, didn't have any GW's after April 1st. They said that they wouldn't get anymore, because the Federal Reserve didn't want any in the banks when the Adams dollars came out.

I'd like to know if there are many more on here who can still get these at the bank.

How would these "service industryies" react to not having dollar bills and just having dollar coins. It could become inconvient/dangerous for them, trying to collect the coins. Dangerous if they get tossed at them.
  • How many dollar coins have failed???

Canada learned long ago that a dollar coin will not be used unless you remove the bill.

When are we going to start using leadership instead of always giving the public what the want.

image Let's see, you're elected to office and then you do things your constituency doesn't want? Sure that may last until the next election but what then? Of course that hasn't stopped some "leadership" image

The issue with the ragbuck is that the economy can afford it. People typically only stop doing what they want when they can't afford it anymore. Did Canada stop their dollar bill because they didn't have China buying their debt and a SHQ program making $4 billion?

And that will stop the mint? The mint always reminds me of Chrysler back in the '70s, no one wants them? no worry park them over there and lets build some more cars. 20 or 30 years from now Presidental Dollars will still be warehoused by the millions. Presidental Dollar Act is the new Bland Act.. and the results will be the same, only this coin isn't a winner.

Whether this coin is a winner or not won't be determined by this generation of collectors.

Very good point, people didn't really trip over themselves for Morgans until the 60s, and even in early 80s you somewhat got the feeling that Peace Dollars were the ugly little sister.

    Faze Out The Dollar Bill!

Today I was carrying 10 quarters in my pocket..No big deal! Would rather be toting 3-5 dollar coins instead.

Compare these new dollars to the Sacagawea. I predict subsequent issues will need to be purchased from the mint. image

On my last visit to USPS, I asked the teller if GW$s were popular there and she didn't even know what they were but did know about SBAs and Sacs. When I told her they were the same size as Sacs, she was very dismayed and didn't want to hear anything more.

No one seems to care that pennies and nickels are about the same size. Why all the fuss about dollars and quarters?

During the last two weeks I got two rolls of dollars. The first was all Sacs. The second was a mixture of Sacs and GWs. Before that I got only GWs when I asked for a roll of dollars. It seems that the supplies of GWs that the banks around here had are already gone. It also seems that the GWs are already making their way back to the banks since the ones I got were clearly circulated. They sure do look better when they darken up a bit.

Another thing I thought interesting is that all the new sacs I encounter at the bank or in the PO are dated 2001. Does that mean the zillion sacs minted in 2000 are finally all used up?

I predict that in 2107 the Mint will announce they've discovered a quanity of uncirculated presidential dollars in their vaults and will offer them to the public.

Probably sooner than that, I have notice over the past few months roll after roll of 2001 and 2002 state quarters are showing up at the banks, there getting them from the fed while the new issues seem to be going out west. Guess they will unload the Prez bucks the same way in a few years.
