How can you tell an SMS coin from a regular business strike?

    The SMS coins from 1965 to 1967 have a much different "look" than the regular issue coins of those years. SMS coins were issued as alternatives to Proof coins. They will show fewer bagmarks, if any, and will have a hard luster that is unlike the frosty appearance of regular issue coins. I suggest purchasing any of the SMS sets (all are relatively inexpensive) and compare the coins to regular issues of the same year. Once you see the difference, you'll never forget it.
