National Chicle Nagurski... ANY chance this bad daddy is legit?

Oh yeah, and if it is, could you not bid on it... I am hoping to snag it for a tee-fidy tops. Thanks in advance.

    Erm... Link Fu II.
  • doesn't even look like a card to me. the scan is pathetic.

  • There's virtually no chance that it is authentic. The card looks artificially worn to me. The corners and edges appear very sharp, and the rest of the card looks bad. If you squint through the over bright scan of the back, it looks like the text on the back is green. Conveniently enough, the bottom of the card's back is so bright that you can barely even see the last few rows of text -- I assume this is to conceal the text (or more likely the erasure mark) at the bottom where it used to say "reprint".

Say, I *am* in the market for a bridge... I anxiously await your PM, good sir!

If Doug says it isn't the real thing, that's good enough for me as I know he has a lot of experience with these National Chicles. Truth be told, this is one set I am looking to put together slabbed without exception. Sadly, I am too busy (read: broke) with other projects to chase the mother of all football card sets right now. Fortunately, I recently picked up a Nagurski sig for a mere $75.00 to get my fix.

I see the new stuff coming out and selling for thousands and then I find out I can pick up an authenticated signature from one of football's greatest, a true legend, deceased since 1990 (if memory serves) for a mere $75. By the way, the Galloping Ghost was had for the same... amazing, no? Not a slam on modern stuff, I collect some of that too, but something just doesn't seem right here.

Good luck on your Chicle set. I am certainly a fan of them. It is a pretty costly set, but you can lessen the pain if you're patient. The high #s can be a struggle. If you can force yourself to wait, you can get them, even if you miss out on a chance occasionally.

    Excellent autographs, by the way.
