Looking for suggestions on a new team

Well, it has been brought to my attention by someone with a lot more "intellect" than I that I don't have this "intellect" because I am a Royals fan. Apparently rooting for an unsuccessful team can drain someone of all of their "intellect." Since I am very anxious to get me some "intellect" I would like to know what team I could root for to get me some "intellect."

At first I thought about selling my fandomness on Ebay because I know that most of you here are pretty stupid and childish, and lacking the "intellect" to be able to help me out. Unfortunately, I have discovered that without "intellect," Ebay is nearly impossible to figure out. So I figured that if all of us morons could get together and pool our "intellect" we could figure out what team would be best to root for. This would then give everyone the opportunity to build up their own "intellect" reserves, and we will never have to be humiliated by outsiders again!

Who's with me?
Travis

    When I posted earlier today that the Royal's were a team I would contract I have to admit it was tough to say it as I have vivid memories of the Royal's about 1978-1980 with Brett, Quiz, Porter, Freddie Patek, UL, etc.... They put some quality teams on the fields those years. Not a lot since then but they were good back then. If it were me I would keep rooting for them until they are no more... which likely will never happen. We have been dealing with similar here in Sac this year with concerns of the King's (former KC King's of course) moving from Sac. Tough to root for a team that might not be around forever but what's the alternative? Jump on the Laker's bandwagon? Root for Golden State because they would be the closest geographic team? Stay with YOUR team until they are no more! Good luck. Hopefully one of the top ten percenters can give you better advice than I! image

    What's wrong with supporting the Royals? They have a BEAUTIFUL ballpark, very nice looking uniforms/logo, rich history/tradition (Brett along with their late 70s-mid 80s glory years), you gotta stand by your Royals (and your Chefs) through thick and thin! Win, lose, or draw. Especially if you happen to be FROM Kansas City. I mean, at least you do get a couple major league teams. I'd KILL to get one in Kentucky (we had a shot at the Grizzlies, but they went to Memphis instead), especially a MLB team (which we have not had since 1899). Oh well, there's always our CATS!!! image

    Rooting for the Royals? Yes, your intellect is quite low.

    The true intellectual chooses his team AFTER the results of the game, not before.

    He who boards the bandwagon when success is certain, is certain to be successful.

    Every team goes through ups and downs. In the nearly 40 years of following the Oakland A's (future Silicon Valley Oakland Athletics of Fremont) I've watched them go through several stages:

    1968-71 solid young team that became;

    1972-75 a mini-dynasty (5 division championships and 3 World Series wins) to;

    1976-1979 the worst team in baseball; then

    1980-82 Billy Ball! Not much talent but boy did Billy Martin get the best out of them. RICKEY HENDERSON!;

    1983-87 New ownership building another solid team built on young talent and veteran pitching which leads to;

    1988-92 Another mini-dynasty (damn Kirk Gibson and Billy Hatcher); Maybe one of best teams every put together. Underachievers though. Should have won 3-5 World Series;

    1993-98 Very mediocre teams under new cost-cutting ownership. Watching a steady stream of All-Star quality players leave to free agency;

    1999-2006 The Money Ball era. 1st or 2nd in division every year. Team plays a boring, but efficient brand of baseball with no stars.

    I'm still a fan, and have been all through these ups and downs. I hate the type of baseball they play and don't especially like going to games since they all seem to go 4 hours but you can get I got off my ass and cheered when Marco Scutaro hit that game winning HR against Mariano Rivera yesterday!

    I've been a Bills fan since as far back as I can remember (1963?). Don't card what other people think.
    Didn't care what they said when they lost 4 Super Bowls in a row. I guess you could call people that
    still root for their team, even though they lose "Die hard fan." I'm one of them.

  • I've cheered for the Indians since 1986/87 when Cory Snyder and Joe Carter graced the cover of Sports Illustrated. They were pretty awful till about 93' made the world series twice... and were perennial playoff contendors...sold off the high priced talent; rebuilt and have promising youngsters... you cheer who you want to cheer for, no matter how bad they are.

    KC has a great stadium and great steaks image they need to develop and keep some talent and bring in a few savvy vets who arent' over the hill.

    Doesn't seem to bother Cubs fans.

    Hey Travis. I feel your pain. I will always be a Cardinals fan first and foremost but since moving to KC it is hard not to root for the boys in blue. They do have a great ball park and some of the most loyal fans in baseball (although there might not be many of them). It sucks to watch them struggle. But look on the bright side: there are always great tickets available if you want to go see them play. image

    I remember the consistent seasons of the Twins losing and people jumping the bandwagon. The only true fans are the ones who stand up for their team, whether they are winning or losing!!! I would say go Royal's but they are in the same division as the Twins and I got to root for who I grew up watching. So keep on cheering, through injuries, loses, firing, bad trades (Twins trading Ortiz was up around the worst on record), and old ballparks.

    By the way as far as your team goes, if the twins, tigers, Indians, and white sox can make the series. The Royals can to. Greinke will help them!!!

    Thanks guys. This was a sarcastic thread referencing a comment made by an angry ebay seller in another thread. Don't worry, I would never sell out on my boys in blue.
