Its been some time since i have seen any Alpha 10's on ebay. And well....good to know they are still HIGHLy sought after and many collectors really fight for them.
I have to admit after the PSA 10 Prodigal sorcerer and scrybe sprites broke 50.00 on the bidding i was shocked. my max bid of 38.00 seemed funny lol
Although i cant belive i won the psa 10 Twiddle (uncommon) for 42 when the Sorcerer sold for 52. O well...
Good to know these cards continue to increase in value...especially with all the new collectors attacking them now

I saw those auctions but forgot to watch them go out - what was the final hammer price of all those Alphas? I'd check completed auction history, but to help me cut down on my bidding my wife changed our account password

As to the Lotus, who knows...... Bidder had 4 previous transactions, 3 for $1 cards and then a sealed Beta Starter so who knows if they are legit.
It seems like Len is bitter once again. I'm sorry that he is now #2 on the Alpha set registry, and he has to blame someone. ***There will more PSA 10 Alpha's for all of you to bid on, so you can all surpass Len's spot in the future***
The prices went strong because the cards are in demand, and I do agree with Len, I don't think they have peaked yet. Private sales are up, as there are many cards I have sold, for higher than ebay prices.
Anyway, if any of you want Alpha cards in any grade, feel free to drop me an email. I'll offer FREE SHIPPING for any PSA 10 Alpha card purchased from!
Good Luck and Happy Bidding!
Overall I really like high grade Alphas, but the market is still too hyped right now. While sky-high prices might be warrented on rares and better (playable) cards, those prices aren't tenable long term wrt commons, IMHO. As more and more are graded prices will drop - after all, once the top collectors get their PSA 10 Hill Giants and Walls of Wood, who's going to be paying $50?? Alpha 10's are rare and will always command a premium, but there are enough commons/uncommons out there waiting to be graded.
Best of luck to all of you "in the race" - I will stay on the sidelines cheering for you

I'm pretty certain Len could take the lead back any time he wants. My guess is that we will see him fill in his gaps and take the #1 spot by a substantial margin.
I agree Len could take the lead back. Unfortunately, there are a lot of 1/1 RARES that both you and I own in PSA 10. Some key RARES are nearly impossible to get PSA 10, like the Vesuvan, Personal Incarnation, Darkpact (I do own this one), etc... Those are some cards that should be considered in the weighting, I think in the long run.
Good Luck.

e.g. if an ungraded lotus is $1k and a graded one is $5k, if a ungraded common is $1 a graded one of the same grade as the lotus should be $5, not $50. No one in the right mind is going to trade 20 graded commons for one ungraded lotus (unless someone wants to volunteer differently). Note I'm talking about relatives not absolutes, if a the market price for a graded lotus was $50,000 then $50 might be about right.
At the moment the graded prices are a bit like trading the ungraded cards were when they first come out. Here - I'll trade you 10 plains for your Mox Pearl - that's like 10 land for 1! ;-)
I suspect current prices are driven more by heart than mind - until you get down to grade 8's which are generally more comparable to ungraded prices.
Anyone buying these cards on the basis they'll be able to sell them for at least what they paid for them with any certainty is probably going to be pretty disappointed at some point I suspect! Someone bought a PSA 10 Unlimited Lotus for $2.7k a year or so ago, the next one sold for about $1.6k. That's how much prices can vary, even in a short time!
Anyway, I could go on about this for ages, so I'll stop there. :-)

Danny Danny Danny.... God you are just as ignorant as you are a deceitful person to deal with and that is hard to believe. To enlighten you a bit, I actually sold the card to Jake that he needed to complete his set and sneak by me. I don't think these are the actions of a "bitter" person but rather someone that actually enjoys the community and is willing to share with it.
You, on the other hand, are driven by nothing but greed and the desire to screw anyone you can via any means possible. I guess that is why you had to start up your latest venture on Ebay as your old account names had become too well known amongst the regular collectors.
I could post numerous email quotes from collectors I have spoken to about your lack of business ethics but I'd rather hit you in the wallet by not bidding on your goods.
It's a tricky pricing system, to be sure - the differences in prices between sources can be substantial.
Good that you helped Jake. But my comment about bitterness has nothing to do with him. Regardless, don't have others bid on items that you might want and then trade/buy them. Bid yourself. I welcome your bids, and you are welcome to bid as everyone has. As for my name. I'm happy to have been apart of something greater than myself. How about this, I'll sell you ANY common PSA 10 for 35.00 dollars that isn't a major one (i.e. disenchant?)? Since I'm so greedy, I'll even pay for shipping. Or I can personally drop them off at your office. Service? I'm all about it!
As for market sales, I recently sold some other cards for higher than market prices - still showing PSA 10 Alpha's are strong. Anyone that wants to know can email me.
Thanks.
<< <i>For what it's worth longer time I would expect graded cards to end up with the same relative prices as ungraded cards if they ever get wider popularity. >>
There is a lot of truth in this. For instance, the coin market (which has been at this grading thing a lot longer) puts virtually no premium on graded vs raw from a reputable source, until you get to the really high grade stuff. IMHO PSA 10's and high demand PSA 9's are the only cards that will have any long term premium over raw.
Michael, your examples are spot on wrt all graded MtG cards, except perhaps Alpha rares. Since the print run was so small and the QC terrible, along with the fact that not many people set cards aside and there is very little available sealed, you get them commanding large premiums in 10. I don't see that changing, unless we somehow end up with 10-15+ PSA 10's of certain cards or player interest drops completely. Long term I feel there will most likely be enough 10's to go around for any card collectors might want, except for Alpha rares and certain high demand problem cards (like BoP). This being said I really have no desire to throw crazy money at simply any 10 that comes up, as the price will most likely come down someday.
And I am very patient..................
