2007 Topps Heritage - Need a quick lesson

I really like the 07 Heritage cards..however, I've never collected Heritage in the past. Could someone please give me a quick lesson. From what I've been able to gather, the complete set is around 550 cards, which includes all Short Prints, etc. Also appears that there are 385 base cards (no SP's, etc.). Is this correct? Also, are the SPs mostly stars, or just random. What should one expect to pay for SPs? I presume SPs come in regular packs..how rare are the SPs? How many SP cards are there? How do you know if a card is a SP (I presume they are not marked on the card)...just from a checklist?

Help is greatly appreciated...

The set this year has 384 base cards (card #145 does not exist), 110 short prints (seeded 1 for every 2 packs), 33 yellow name/yellow team variations, and 3 insert sets: 10 then and now, 10 flashbacks, and 15 new age performers. There is also a 42 card mantle insert set. These cards, by most accounts, make up the master set, so the total is 562.

The 33 yellow variation cards are seeded 1 per 6 packs. Sp's and yellows are a fairly random selection of cards with some stars( jeter, pujols, a-rod, griffey) and rookies, and commons. They typically sell for 2-2.50 each, except the afore-mentioned stars which command a 2-3x premium.

So, for a $50 box, you'll get about 12-13 sp's, 2-3 yellows, 3-4 mantles, 6-8 inserts, 2-3 chromes, maybe a relic card - most likely no ink. you'll find lots of traders on the heritage thread.

Oh, and sp's do come in regular packs, look just like every other card. Topps released the sp list soon after release of the product. See the heritage thread for links to the list.
