Need Help on 79 OPC Gretzky

I just bought/traded for this Gretzky OPC RC. I bought it at what a PSA 7 brings. What do you guys think? I have no experience with this issue but I always wanted a Gretzky RC for the coolness factor of it and the trade was easy.

I didn't resize them right from my scanner.

Sorry to say, but your Gretzky is an absolute fake.
All the OPC must have the "yellow dot" on the Gretzky's left shoulder.
It is impossible to find one without it. Only the Topps version doesn't
have a dot. Even if you find one with the dot,
you're only have way there as counterfeiters are getting better. The newly
printed counterfeits will show a slightly white dot instead of yellow. Once, you
find a yellow dot, you also have to inspect the ice on the bottom thru magnification.
If you see a blue haze in the ice under magnification, it's a fake. Also, the back is too white.
Originals have more of a tannish/brown back.

It is very risky to purchase raw when you're also unfamilar
with an issue. The card you have will also have a very thin card stock. Under
maginification, the black line surrounding the card will appear as matrix dots
and not a solid black line. I'd request a refund or trade back if I were you. Chalk up
    another lesson learned...the hard way....sorry.

Unfortunately, I concur. Spotted it right away. Whatever you traded for it, try to get it back. This card is a definate fake.

This is what an OPC looks like. See dot on shoulder and the standard OPC rough cuts.
They don't come with smooth edges unless BGS sheet cut.

This is what the Topps looks like.....has no dot.

I'm glad this worked out for you Mongoth. I just read this thread for the first time, and as soon as I saw that there was no yellow dot, I was like "oh no!" image
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Just shows what I don't know. Like I said that's what these boards are good for. If anyone has a question you get fast good well meaning responses. It really saved my butt. I would do the same. The dealer I would like to say was great throughout this. He sold my cards like the next day and spent this time buying them back at an amount that wouldn't put him out anymore money. I respect him greatly for not whining like a baby or accusing me of switching the card.

I was at my first show in New York (not 1st in general) many years ago and dealers where closing up there tables and I was looking for deals. I had been helping a friend with his table and got my chance to walk around. One of the dealers told me he needed to sell 2 Brett HUll rookies for 50 bucks, I think they were about 100 each at the time. SO I bought them, only to find out 10 years later they were fakes image

The good thing about OPC Gretzky fakes is how quickly you can spot them because of the dot. The same can't be said for Lemieux, Hull, Roy, et al rookies.
