The question is in three parts:

    1. What is the minimum number of batters that a pitcher can face and be credited with a complete game?
    2. Since 1900, when was the only time it has been done (exact date)?
    3. Who was the pitcher?

For a bonus - what is the other piece of the puzzle?

  • I know the answer to #1 but I won't spoil it for everyone else.

An official game end after the losing team bats 5 times. If the away team (batting first in an inning) scores one run on an HR, and the home team is shut out, the game is considered complete if it is called. That is what happened.

OK ... help the village idiot out. How can a team bat for 5 innings, 3 outs an inning, and only 13 batters get a chance to hit. I'm missing something here.

  • Matt, don't feel bad. I immediately hopped in with the wrong answer (arrogant too, I might add) and then followed that up with another response that only further illustrated that I just don't get it.

    Where's the whiskey?

Obviously I've had my share ... or rather the official scorekeeper that day had my share.

    Where I come from 3x5= 15 not 13.

Someone teach me the new math.

Edited to metion that after a cup of coffee ... it now makes sense. Back to the rocks.

home team scores 1 run on 1 hit(HR) in 4 innings (13 batters), visiting team does not score through their half of 5 innings...rain ends game with home team declared winner.
I collect Seattle Pilots autographs, 1969 Topps autographs, Signed Mickey Mantle Home Run History cards and have a JC Martin collection (he was my college Baseball coach)

Does it count as a complete game for the pitcher? image

    yes, it does.

Really frustrating if you are in a rotisserie league where CG is a category and someone else gets a cheap one.
