Anyone had this happen to them? Scam?

So I just won an auction today and shortly afterward I receive this email, supposedly from the seller.

"Dear overspenderofcrappycards,

Sorry but it appears that we did not specify payment methods on this batch
of cards and an old Paypal account was specified. Please make sure that if
you are paying via Paypal it is paid to ebay@stephstore.com. You are the
winning buyer for the item below. Thank you for your business!

Item title: 1926 Lambert & Butler GENE TUNNEY #3 PSA 8
Web address: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130099611269
Item number: 130099611269
Buyer User ID: xanaduforrent
Seller User ID: johngl25"

I did not receive the message in my ebay messages. The seller had the same item in their store for the past few months with a BIN/BO of $259. They may not be happy with the final price and are trying to get out of it?

Their feedback is bad but a while back I took a chance on a BIN item that they listed way too low and I caught within minutes of listing. I used that as a tryout since I figured it would show their willingness to fulfill their end even when they're losing money and if I got the shaft it wouldn't be for too much. I got the card.

Should I contact ebay? This whole thing just screams "bad" and I'm not entirely sure the route to take. Under no circumstances am I sending money to some PP address without going through ebay. I'm just wondering how to handle this and what the odds are I can still purchase the card?

Thanks

Arthur

    Arthur,

Flat out ignore the email. Send a "Request for total" to the ebay seller and take it from there.

First, contact the seller via email (phone is better) and
ask if he sent you the payment instructions. Those
instructions may have been sent by a third-party
    scamster.

Do not make any PP payments outside of the EBAY
checkout for any items you purchase on EBAY. Such
payments void your EBAY-PP buyer-protection benefits.

If the seller is legit, he will need to update his EBAY info
regarding PP, before he can properly collect his payment.
The bad info that "he" claims is now there in that regard
is grounds for him being NARUd immediately. ALL members
are obligated to maintain accurate contact/payment info

  • How about contacting them through an ebay message instead of email?

Thanks for all the input. I really appreciate it.

If he/she takes paypal, go through the eBay check out regardless of what they want image
