Just a quick HI !!! Now with LARGE images

I am still around just a bit busy with work.

I will be driving to Kildare tomorrow to meet up with a coin dealer who often travels to Germany and brings back some good coinage.

The trip is about 3 1/2 to 4 hours one way so I hope that it'll be worth it.

My dedication to coins remains unwavered. image

Edit: Something funny happening with my PC and I can't send PM's for some reason, no time to hang around as we are of to a friends house for dinner in about 15 mins:

Don: I will be picking up those remaining ZAR coins in Kildare and will post Monday or Tuesday.

Roman: Yours will be posted then too.

I'll post pictures of my purchases on Sunday.
The meaning of life ? I don't know but I am sure that coins have something to do with it.

Disable any pop-up blocker you may have installed, when I installed IE7, the pop-up blocker is on by default and got me too just in case you've recently upgraded.

WHY don't you collect Irish coins?

(Not that I have anything against South African coins- I like those too, and I have visited the country, which I found beautiful.)

But you live in Ireland, man! A place I have only dreamed of seeing!

Maybe you do collect Irish coins, for all I know. I remember buying some Brit pieces from you a while back. Nice stuff- still have 'em.

If I were in Ireland, or anywhere in Europe, for that matter, I would be digging stuff outta the ground, right and left!

Thou art a lucky one, to live in such a beautiful place. I hope I can see it one day, before I croak.

Been there, done those- except for the '43 florin- I left the plug in the album for that one. I did have a 1943 halfcrown I'd cracked from an old PCI F15 photoslab, though.

I will be doing that next summer. My youngest son will have graduated High School and we plan to go to
Donegal to visit whats left of my mother's family. We will be bringing the MD's with us as there are acres and
acres of places to dig. Hell I don't know where to even start...LOL!

Actually I also had an additional 7 sets (without the 1943 Florin, but WITH the 1943 halfcrown) that I ended up selling, most on ebay, only 1 to Ireland.... the other 6 all stayed in the US.......
  • Well I am back and the trip was worth it.

As I suspected the dealer is a very nice guy and gave me a free new issue US $1 and a coin magazine featuring German and Swiss coins.

I bought a few minor German coins, as well as a beautiful UNC 1870 10 Centimes from France and just for Rob an Irish 1980 10p with a double strike on the date. I also collected a few ZAR's which I had purchased from the dealer on the Bay.

I will take pictures in a moment, I just hope that the battery is still charged. image

Edit: Just to add that I have a few Irish coins but I don't specifically collect them. I have a few coins ranging from nice slabbed specimens, the highest being MS66 ( from memory ), down to F grade coins.

  • OK, first up is an Ottoman coin which I know nothing about. If anyone could help with denomination, date etc I'd be eternally grateful:

Next up is the 10 Centimes - opinions appreciated:

And the double strike date on the Irish 1980 10p:

The German minors I bought have lovely toning on them but my photos don't bring the toning out so I will try again tomorrow with sunlight.
