Bad news for University of Michigan football

I hate to see these things happen, but they do.

The Michigan football team will be glad to finish its spring practices on Saturday.

Junior running back Kevin Grady is U-M's latest casualty after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament during last Saturday's practice.

His father, Kevin Grady Sr., confirmed the knee injury Thursday evening.

"He was having a great spring, but it's one of those things that's out of your control," Grady Sr. said.

Losing Grady thins out an already-damaged running backs corps. Senior Heisman Trophy candidate Mike Hart was not slated to practice this spring after a minor shoulder surgery just before spring drills.

Backup Carlos Brown has switched to cornerback, and now Grady's injured.

The state's all-time leading high school rusher at East Grand Rapids, Grady gained 187 yards and three touchdowns in nine games last season. He was competing with sophomore Brandon Minor this spring for the No. 2 tailback spot.

Asked if Grady would miss the entire season, his father didn't want to give up yet. But the injury usually requires at least a year to return to full strength.

"He could come back," Grady Sr. said. "People are coming back from ACLs in three to six months."

Thats too bad, hate to see any promising young althete suffer an injury. Hopefully he will make it back to form sooner than later.
  • Bad injury for sure, but how much playing time was he to see with Hart coming back?

I think he would have seen significant playing time to groom him for the feature role when Hart leaves.
