Honest opinion on if this would cross over?

I just aquired this yesterday. It is actually currently in a SGC 50 holder....would it cross over to a PSA 4 or would I have to settle for a 3? By the way...I'm not wanting a 3, so I'm not a big enough risk taker to crack it out and submit it!

  • I feel SGC is much tougher on Pre-war. My T-205 SGC 40's are all much better than the PSA 3's that I have.

I think that card is graded correctly at VG/EX. Not quite a 4 but better than a 3.

    Sweet card !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree...I also believe that SGC grades more stringently on vintage..so you should be able to successfully cross it.
  • It looks like a solid 4. Beautiful card.

  • Well its definately a card I've coveted. But I do think I'd like it in a PSA holder. But, if it won't grade a 4 I'll probably be better off selling it and then buying a PSA. I'd hate to crack it out and submit it and then it get a 3.
  • I would keep it in the SGC holder. That's a great grade for that card, and pre-war SGC is not off PSA by much if any. I would give the card about a 15 - 20% chance of grading 4.
  • Tombo. I hear ya. The problem is all my T206's are in PSA holders...and I'm anal about having uniformaty. Chances are I'd send up selling it anyway for a decent looking PSA 1 or 2 and take the extra funds to buy additional T206's...image
  • In general, it does seem like SGC is slightly more stringent in pre-war low- to mid-grade cards. However, that doesn't mean this particular card in a SGC 50 holder will cross to a PSA 4. I've submitted a few crossovers of 1933 Goudeys in SGC 60 trying to get PSA 5, and have gotten rejected on about 20% of them. Then again, I've submitted a few crossovers of T206 PSA 4s trying to get SGC 50s and have gotten rejected on roughly 20% of them too. Going back and forth between the two companies has a random process to it. Sometimes the card is slightly overgraded in one holder and the other company doesn't want to cross it ... sometimes I'll bet it depends on the grader and his mood (I've had cards that did not cross the first time but have crossed the second time it was submitted - and that's to both companies).

If you really want the card in a PSA holder, then try it, how much does it cost? $20? If that is worth it for you for it to be in a PSA holder, then go for it. My guess is that there's probably a 50% to 70% chance it crosses. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't cross it though.

Great card! How much does a card like that usually sell for? I would love to own one but I'm pretty sure that it is well above my means. image

Theres nothing else like Iron Maiden...never will be either. From the poetic historical lyrics to the phenominal musicianship...and Bruce's lungs...no one can touch them!
  • Here is an example for you asphalt on the differences. It's been fairly consistent this way at least to me. JMO.
