What a big swing for PSA8 Montana rookies.

One just closed for $224. $224

The last 15 before ranged from $81 to $114.

On 2/26 one went for $456, but it was autographed.

The price for these varies wildly, depending on centering. There are enough dealers out there who are willing to crack and submit (I won't speculate on what else they may do to the card) well centered copies in PSA 8 and hope for a significant bump. I don't know if that's happened in this case, but before the underbidders became veiled I used to see a lot of the 'usual suspects' putting in bids in excess of $250 on this card in PSA 8 when the centering was dead on.
  • Boo, you think the HOF set registry has anything to do with it?

If it's dead centered, it's not that surprising. I was expecting to reply to you that a PSA 8 sells in the 85-120 range, then you show me one closing for $224. lol

That being said however, 9's dont' sell for much more than that, even dead centered ones are $350-ish. So picking this one up for $224 and getting the bump to a 9, isn't that much of a profit.

Now, pitch your PSA 8 Tarkenton rc as a PSA 9 and watch it get $325 more than it should have. ( That happened tonight). Or, you can look at the PSA 10 Alan Page I had my eyes on tonight which hasn't crossed the $500 mark since I started watching it, and it hits $785 tonight. Needless to say, I didn't win it.

Xanadu: I don't think the HOF registry has anything to do with this sale as 8's are very easy to find. I think this was just a case of someone seeing a nice card they think can get a bump.
