Speaking of Glasses...1971 Topps, Grade or Not? **GRADES IN**

Is this Horace Clarke worth grading? It's card number 715 -high series- but I'm not sure if it's a single print or not. It was part of a raw lot that yielded a PSA 8 Bobby Bonds. I included a scan against a dark back ground to save Lee the trouble of asking image

I would say the card will probably pull a 7. In a 7 condition, my hunch would be an auction could possibly pull up to 20 for the card. I hope that helps.

Corners and edges could bring this down to a 6.

  • Well-centered beauty.

Probably a six. Perhaps a seven.

    Just my two cents.
  • I've seen 8's that looked worse than that. I say you have a shot at an 8
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Not a chance it's a 6. You might get a 7. You will more likely get an 8.

  • 8 would be great
  • 7 easily. Too nice for a 6.

regardless of what psa would give it, that's a really nice card.

if i had a set of '71's and they were all like that i would b standing in tall clovers.

save your money getting the card graded, head to newport beach, visit psa, bodysurf the wedge, get a consussion, almost drowned, drink some beer and call it a day.

Not an 8 with all that white showing, but a beautiful card anyway.

I'd love to get that set someday, but even a mid-grade set (like EX-EXMT range) is at least $1000. image

    Send it in.

But, I doubt it will be an 8.

    Could even be a 6.

  • No way that's an 8. Solid 7, though. It may get a 6 if the grader is in a REAL bad mood, but my money would be on a 7.

I've graded over 1000 1971's and I'd say it's most likely a 7 with a possibility of an 8. I doubt a 6 unless there's some flaw that doesn't show in the scan. A lot of it will depend on the grader you get. I resubmit a lot of high end 7's I get back and some will usually bump. Some graders won't give an 8 if any white is showing on a corner. It's like the card has to be mint to warrant an 8 with those graders. I've seen some ugly 8's out there as well. This definitely wouldn't be the worst I've seen if it does pull an 8. Good luck.

This one card could raise a whole debate by itself. Grading can be all over the place on 71's. The grading at times can be too tough on this issue. Not alot of consistancy. Some have to be mint to get an 8. I suspect the card is a high end 7 due to the upper right corner-everything else looks fine. I believe that card is a tough card in an 8. If it gets an 8 it will be because of the nice color and centering. I would definately grade it.

I asked this question before half point grading, so I'm guessing that most of you would have said 7.5 image Should I crack and resub -or- be greatful that I didn't get a 7?

7.5 actually looks accurate, as it looks to be squarely between a 7 and an 8, IMO. You may get an 8 on a good day, or a 7 on a bad one. PSA is rather leniernt on this issue as far as white showing. As mentioned before, I've seen worse in a PSA 8 holder, so I wouldn't be surprised to see this card in an 8 holder if you try to get the bump.

Crack away. PSA could use some additional funds to help boost their stock price.

    VCP average for a PSA 7 = $10.79
VCP average for a PSA 7.5 = not available
    VCP average for a PSA 8 = $81.11

Dr.J's sarcasm that it is in PSA's best interest for you to try for a bump is obviously correct, but as you can see it also benefits you as well if it bumps up to a PSA 8 (if you are looking to sell it) .

I was going to guess 7.5 just because everyone was going 7's and 8's before seeing the 7.5 as i scrolled by... Accurate grade
