What is the POSSIBLE rationale here? Top 200 Sportscards...

Hi,
For Joe's book "Top 200 Sportscards in the hobby," what POSSIBLE rationale could he use for including the 1990 Leaf Sosa and not the 1990 Leaf Thomas? For the first 8 years of the set's release, the Thomas was wildly popular, on par with the 1989 Griffey. Then BRIEFLY in the late 1990s-early 2000s, the Sosa was more popular. Now, the Leaf Thomas RC has estabilished itself as the key card in the set.
It just maddens me that this was such an idiotic choice. Sosa's popularity is linked to McGwire and his steroid use is probably more prolific than Bods. I just saw this and it really is a pathetic inclusion.
Perhaps an addendum is in order! Does anyone else have any cards that they feel should have been included?

My original point was the fact that *perspective* should have been taken into account. I do not think -- even during the 1999 season -- it was a rationale choice to put Sosa's 1990 Leaf card among the other 199 cards included.
Am I wrong here?
As for Sosa -- I think it's hard to imagine how quickly the tide turned against him. At the end of 2003, he finished in the Top 10 MVP voting six times in a row. That is pretty incredible. Add in six Silver Sluggers and the classic HR chase with McGwire, Sosa's fun-loving attitude with the Cubs fans, and Sosa could do no wrong.
Before the steroid scandal hit, I think he was generally considered a first-ballot HOF'er.
Time and patience has changed the view of many....
do you think Sosa is a HOF-er???
I appreciate you taking the time to address my questions/concerns.
Sincerely,
Josh
<< <i>maybe they should include the 1993 finest Shane Mack refractor instead?
What an idiotic comment during an intelligent exchange -- even for a Republican. If you're jealous that I have profited on 1993 Refractors, I have a small phrase of advice for you: GET A BRAIN, GET A LIFE...

All else equal, I think it is hard to make an argument against someone who is fifth all-time in Home Runs. Sure, he won't always be fifth -- but he is at almost 600 home runs, and it's just hard to make a compelling argument against it.
That said, I think the politics of the Hall of Fame will treat many of the suspected steroid users harshly, at least for the next few years. In my mind, ultimately what will happen is that the HOF voters will necessarily say that they can't indict specific individuals from the Steroid Era without indicting the whole era of ballplayers -- which no one is suggesting be done. As such, unless a specific admission of steroid use is proffered, I think Sosa (and McGwire) will make it to Cooperstown.

1992 FLEER UPDATE MIKE PIAZZA is a no brainer
also, I would be for removing anything that is in on rarity alone.
