On pace to hit 135 Home Runs this year. Tonight he broke a Yankee record, the first Yankee to hit 5 Homers in the Yankees' first 6 games of the season.
"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

<< <i>A-Rod does look a HELL of a lot more relaxed this year. Kind of has this "I could give a crap what you think" type of approach at the plate. >>
If he could keep that attitude, in this lineup, he can hit 50+ homers and drive in 160 runs. I don't think any of his well-chronicled "choke jobs" are anything that not letting the New York media get to you can't cure.
<< <i>I have wanted A-Rod to have a monster year as far back as March 18 when I drafted him. So far so good. >>
Me too
Cheers
<< <i>i would love for him to break Steroid Man's fake record. >>
Hank Aaron did steroids?
[Edit to add: Duh, never mind. This is talking about "single season." A mind is a terrible thing to waste.]
<< <i>Guys lets not get carried away here, there is a cure for pennant fever called May and June. The same applies to given out Hr records the first week of the Season. Seriously though, good for Arod, good for Yankee fans that he is off to a hot start. If they make it the playoffs and face the Sox there will be plenty of opurtunities for him to be mister non-clutch again. >>
Good point. Come October, the Boss may be calling A-Rod "Mr. May".

Nah. That's Dave Winfield's Title.
Yes, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

If ARod can be consistant and do some more of this clutch hitting, Yanks are going to be tough!
As perhaps the most widely known basher of Arod on here the past year or so I want to congratulate him on this start.
Folks who question the ripping this guy received just never got the point of it all. We all know the potential he has and what he can achieve on a baseball field.
Nobody wanted or wished for him to fail. It was frustration over seeing someone who has his ability clearly fall short due to reasons other than his ability on the field.
The best thing he could have done and did do was clear the air over his relationship with Jeter. In the past he was far too eager to respond to questioning with some half-witted answer that wasnt how he felt, and certainly not the truth. BY admitting how things really were enabled Arod to loosen up and be himself. Not worrying what others think can be very liberating.
I hope as much as anyone that he can continue to play loose and enjoy himself on the field and off. The sky is the limit with him, as is his potential to rule the biggest team, in the biggest market. All he has to do is continue to have fun and be comfortable with himself.

Have you paused to consider that maybe the expectations and the pressure cooker aspect of the New York sports media might be a part of the reason why?
In other words, maybe the fans and the local press have to at least partially look back at themselves?

Nope, have you paused to consider the untold many who HAVE thrived in said "pressure cooker aspect of the New York sports media" ????
You CAN NOT point the finger at NY fans when so many before A-Rod have thrived. THRIVED. Your question actually backs up WHY NY fans grew frustrated with A-Rod in previous seasons. Whether you like it or not, NY fans do not like guys with SOFT MUSHY heads. A-Rod has certainly had that until this very April. Here I am explaining it again .... but it won't matter .....
Paul, A-Rod is just en fuego, EN FUEGO baby!
Keep it up A-Rod!!!

Probably not untrue.
BUT, that is part of what playing for the Yankees is about;
the "pressure" goes with the territory.

That's known but some people, for whatever reason, fail to see it. It's a love/hate environment that's been going on for several decades.
Not saying I agree with it, just is what it is.

Has been going on ALOT longer then several decades. Joe D. would tell you that if he were alive. Yet the billions of pundits here and everywhere else speak like this is some kind of new phenomenon. Whatever!

Now I get it. It's my fault and the fault of some sportswriters that a man making 20 mil a year to play baseball couldn't come up big when it counted. That actually sounds like something Arod would have said in the past. This year it seems like he has finally dropped that b.s. attitude and manned up. I'm rooting for him to keep it going past April - it's awesome to watch the dude when he's on fire like this.

I'm not an Arod fan, but I agree that it is what sports is all about when we get the chance to watch a gifted athlete at the peak of his game without artificial enhancement. He's the best (or darn close to it) in the game and I hope he does well (as long as the Yankees lose every game of the season, that is). Gretzky at his finest was just a pleasure to watch, even when he was beating the home town team with ease. Same with athletes like Bobby Orr, Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, etc -- even fans who "hated" them could really appreciate watching them exercise their gifts and talents.
Tough words - but there's some truth in there, no?
<< <i>Did anyone catch Charles Barkley talking about ARod on ESPN before the game last night? He called it perfectly, saying that he hoped ARod has a great season this year, and then opts-out of his contract at the end of the season for another team, even if it's for less money. He said the Yankees and their fans don't deserve ARod, because they haven't treated him with "respect and dignity" during his time in New York.
Tough words - but there's some truth in there, no? >>
I pay no heed to anything Barkley says. So now he's promoting Arod as a victim and the bad, bad people who root for the Yankees are to blame. Charles needs to STFU.
I dont know if I have ever agreed with anything that Barkley has said. He is a big bag of wind and it goes all the way back to "I'm not a roll model"
<< <i>I'm a Giants and Bonds Fan.. I say go Arod go! >>
<< <i>If Arod keeps this pace, it should take the focus off of Bonds for a while. >>
<< <i>Are you saying that we may miss the needle holes in Bonds if the attention is on ARod? >>
No, I am saying a lot of attention is paid to Bonds because it is suspected, no proven, that Bonds may have used PID's. If he were a Yankee, I am sure he would be clean as a whistle.

Batting avg sinking toward .300 as well. Posada is now the Yank's best hitter.
